Shaunj: great info. Thanks for that. I havn't done anything nearly as extensive as your workflow but looking at your negatives, they are far better than anything I'm getting. Even my 645 scans, although detailed look a little soft at times.
I just got rid of my 35mm camera cos I wasn't satisfied with the scans I was getting from it. Maybe there's still life in 35mm and I'm just not getting the best out of it.

since were on the topic of scanning, i was just wondering what happens if we just use those generic $50 multi function printers to scan the film strips?

(ive never had any experience with film photography but am interested to dwell in it!)

For your question, you'd want to get one with some reasonable scanner specs, say 2400 dpi and also more than 24-bit colour depth. Then, if it's got a good imaging system you might be pleased at the results. (And there's more, etc, etc.) Am.

I posted I thread in the film section with a scan from one of those cheap multi scanner/printers, and IMO It is a waste of time - hence why I am looking for a decent scanner.

When you get your film put on CD in the photo developing shops are they using dedicated film scanners?
If so wouldn't it be easier to get them to do it?

HI coleman... I'm not sure what they'd use, but it would have to be commercially viable. But whatever it is, you don't get much control over the results. OK for most stuff, perhaps, but not all. I wouldn't give them my 6x7s to scan, for eg. Am.

I have been reading up about this scanner - the Canon 9000F - from what I have read, it it does a good job, and seems good value for money.
