View Full Version : And another thing...

When you're running FireFox v9.01 and it starts running like a dog, and subsequent upgrades seem to increasingly lack features of earlier ones and you have to find more add-ons... And the upgrades come nearly every week.
Now it says to upgrade to version 10, but it also says my favourite Exif viewer is incompatible!!!
Well, now it pauses between pages - for ages!!! Say I look at a thread, yeah, scroll up and down, all the usual stuff! Then if I perhaps post a reply, or just click the arrow to go back to the posts, or any minor navigation task, that's when it stops. Sometimes it'll take a minute or so to finally load the page. Often too it gets part way and pauses.
HAS ANYONE GOT a stable version of FF running? HOW?
Any advice would be helpful (except change browsers).
Ta, Am. (Almost not.)
can you uninstall updates? maybe if you ran an earlier more stable version :confused013. (wont suggest what i want to though  )

I had the update to version 10 Email and when I clicked on update I got the mssage that my EXIF viewer was incompatable so I cancelled out. This seems to be a comon thing with both firefox and thunderbird updates, the addons take a while to catch up.

Yes, that's about it on both counts.
(Vex! Blast! Drat!
lAment!)
I'm running v10 no issues.
I use the nightly tester tools to override compatibility issues :th3:
NB: From 11? onwards the default will be compatible rather than not. They have stabilised the add-on API
Here are my addons... Some required a manual update to latest version
1. Adblock Plus (http://adblockplus.org/en/) (v2.0.3) — Ads were yesterday! 2. Australian English Dictionary (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/au-english-dictionary/?src=api) (v2008.12.15) — The Australian English Dictionary contains Australian words, places and expressions. 3. DownThemAll! (http://downthemall.net/) (v2.0.12) — The mass downloader for Firefox. 4. FEBE (http://softwarebychuck.com/) (v7.0.3.2) — Backup your Firefox data 5. Firebug (http://www.getfirebug.com/) (v1.9.1) — Web Development Evolved. 6. FxIF (http://christian-eyrich.de/mozilla/fxif/) (v0.4.5) — View EXIF data in image properties 7. IE View (http://ieview.roub.net/) (v1.5.0) — Open pages in IE via Firefox menus 8. Net Usage Item (http://netusage.iau5.com/) (v1.2.338.1) — Displays your internet usage on the toolbar. 9. Nightly Tester Tools (http://www.oxymoronical.com/web/firefox/nightly) (v3.2.1.1) — Useful tools for the nightly tester. 10. Tab Mix Plus (http://tmp.garyr.net/) (v0.4.0pre.120204a) — Tab browsing with an added boost. 11. ViewSourceWith (http://dafizilla.sourceforge.net/viewsourcewith) (v0.9.1.1) — View page source with external application 12. Web Developer (http://chrispederick.com/work/web-developer/) (v1.1.9) — Adds a menu and a toolbar with various web developer tools.

Hmm! That's interesting about FxIF 0.4.5. The 1st thing the V10 installer said was that it was not compatible. Is this one you installed manually?

Am if you're having issues with slow FF, look for their Aurora download.
it's Beta, it's running stable on my PC and it feels OK to use as well.
I think it's basically FF v11 or something like that.
I've loaded it onto a very old slow single core AMD XP3200 machine running WinXP which my kids use and it feels OK too.
I've also stopped using every plugin I can manage to download tho, so for example, instead of using an EXIF viewer plugin, I use PhotoMe as my exif viewer which still allows rightclick option on the image to view EXIF data....
and other stuff like that.

A bit of seasoning there, I think.
(Or was it the 4 Spices? How many spice girls are there anyway?)
:rolleyes:m.
(Aside. Just now I tried to fwd an email from my Optusnet to Yahoo account. 4 times it stalled. Logged in on the little netbook, using FF 8, and it went straight away!!!)
No problems here either with FF10
I'm using...
Adblock Plus 2.0.3
Status-4-Evar 2012.01.14.17.
English (Australian) Dictionary
FxIF 0.4.5
Histogram Viewer 2.04

And then, as if it were nothing at all, it started to run like a dream. It still is as I type.
How str:eek:nge! I didn't do anything. In fact, hooked another computer off the router to share the internet (previously interNOT).

A.....
(Wattle happen 2morra, I wonder?)
Am.
It'll make you breakfast in bed, a nice hot cuppa, help you get up and dressed for work, with freshly pressed work clothes, send you off to work with a kiss on the cheek and settle back to clean the house for 'ya whilst you're gone for the day.
.. the depressing part is what happens the 'next day', when you've woken and suddenly find you've missed a days work and the house is a mess, there's a two week pile of clothes that need laundering, and you're starving like mad ..... not having eaten for over a day!

I've been a long time user of Firefox, since something like version 2. I was getting tired of it slowing down and crashing all the time. I know you didn't want this type of response, but seriously I noticed on my computers firefox was getting more and more buggy and my wife even said hers was driving her nuts. So I made the change to Chrome which is far better. Sadly it isn't colour space aware, but I live with that for the benefits in speed and stability.

FF 9.01 or something like that here.
Very little in the way of adons except for the exif viewer.
No problems with it at all.
Had to switch when a menu bar that had all the most used forum view tools (my posts, new posts, etc) stopped showing up on a 4wd forum on IE after the site did an upgrade, so I had no choice but to switch. Been happy with that switch so far.

Ta folks.
Lately it's been speeding up and slowing down.
I hooked a netbook off the router that uses the same modem and the user says it's fine.
It makes me wonder if there's something wrong with my FF, because a week or so back I got a piece of malware in an email - subsequently (supposedly) eradicated, but who knows? So I thought I would save out my bookmarks and uninstall V9 and do a clean install of V10. Then import bookmarks again.
That's because I don;t think its the ISP, modem, or router. Took a while to eliminate.
Ta, Am.
Firefox 10 running perfect here also FxIF plugin and other plugins working fine (win 7 system)
One thing I do pretty regular is run CCleaner and Adaware as well as Antivirus to keep everything clean :)

Folks!
I have a measure of good news to relate.
Today I upgraded to FF10, without even uninstalling FF9 first.
So far, and I've been on it a fair bit, it has been behaving itself at a rate of about 90%. (FireFix?)
This is about how it was b4 the (perceived and yet very real) problem began.
All my add-ons and plug-ins have survived the upgrade intact.
Dare I :) ? Or even :D
I feel a/an :beer_mug: is called for.
