View Full Version : Need a dedicated non-twist camera plate for Pentax K5 and D-BG4 Grip

Just got the D-BG4 grip to go with my new K5, and to say I'm chuffed would be an understatement.

The K5 body felt like a toy in my largish hands, and I seemed to have a finger or two flapping in the breeze, but the grip has transformed the way the camera feels. How does bloody brilliant sound?

Pentax , in their wisdom, have moved the tripod mounting point off-centre, so my camera plate no longer fits the contour of the base.

I've googled and googled and the only dedicated plate I've found is a Mestos, here, on fleabay : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mestos-PD-K5H-Plate-Bracket-Pentax-K5-K7-Vertical-Grip-/280710434402?pt=US_Camera_Cases_Bags&hash=item415ba54e62

Anyone familiar with it, or found another brand?

Cheers mate.

Kirk used to make the PZ-135 for the K7 but for some reason stopped when the K5 came out. It fits both. Go figure.

RRS don't do one either.

I really want a non-twist plate for when I have my 300mm on in portrait mode.

If you have a head which is Arca-Swiss compatible, you can also look at the Acratech plates.
They literally have hundreds to choose from, and they are very light and very strong too, with a lip on the rear end shaped to fit various cameras and have many model specific plates for cameras with grips attached.
They have an agent in Canberra (photovideo.com.au ) and they are nice people to deal with, and their prices are almost the same as the US retailers.

Thank you for your reply.

I have checked Acratech, RRS, Kirk, Markins and Photoclam, with no joy.

The only possibility I've found is the Mestos I mentioned above.

Since that post I've read a thread on Pentax forums where quite a few are using the Mestos plate with no problems, so I guess that gives me some confidence.

I've just hit the button for the Mestos.

Thanks for the help.

Cheers
