Which lens to use bushwalking?

I'm heading out bushwalking at lunch time today and thought if take my camera along for the ride, I'll take both lenses with me but I'd prefer not to be changing them over all day to avoid dirt getting in there... So which is more useful... 18-55 or 55-300?

depends. what is where you are bushwalking, Open areas with wide sweeping vista's to capture stunning landscapes, or is it closed in with a tree canopy

Use the 18-55 if you have great wide scenes to photograph, or waterfalls etc. If it is closed in and you are hoping to capture animals and birds etc on the walk, take the 55-300. If it was me, I would take both and happily swap them.

If I only wanted to take one of those lenses on a bushwalk, I would choose the 18-55 ( use it for landscape, flora, people etc ), but it would ultimately depend on what you expect to shoot ( birds? ).

It's mostly closed in trees and shrubs, so I'll start with the 55-300 on and change if I want a wide landscape picture. Thanks!

As stated above, if yoiu in a "BUSH" walk, I would usually have on the 24-70mm and keep the 100-400 not far away for those bird shots. Plus the extra calories burnt carring photographer gear makes you feel better anyway :D
