There's a response to that truly stupid suggestion here, as well as some good examples of awful "professional" photography: http://youarenotaphotographer.com/ :p

Exactly... I saw a sign somewhere a few days ago by Sony, saying something along the lines of... "professional has gone compact", so these people aren't entirely to blame, they're sold a lie to start with...
Add universal appraisal on Facebook and flickr and you have instant modern marvel

LoL. Haz camera, is professional.

A write-up on the MWACAttack phenomenon: http://kevinnewsome.wordpress.com/2011/12/15/yes-folks-its-satire-but-an-accurate-one/ Now that I have been reassured that it's satire, I think it's hilarious. XD
I just realised my camera strap and camera bag don't both match my clothes.....:eek:

I am actually quite relieved to find it was a satire. Suspected as much, but wasn't 100% certain. Phew.
In the spirit of satire.
If you want some quality advice go here (http://www.derekpyephotography.com/)...
Quotes from Phil's here link, "Is editing an overrated waste of time? You may know this already. (workshop cancelled)", and
"The Rule of Thirds - You may have heard of this one and the accompanying myth that it's got something to do with composition. No no no! That's what we want you to think. The rule of thirds is the rule that any fees or associated costs go up by a third when anybody mentions the word wedding."

struth, he doesn't hold back.
Best line from the first animated video though....the bride's question "do you have backup equipment?" Togs answer - "I have a hip flask"

Had a look a your photos Joey and I reckon you're a good photographer!
Hahaha MWAC was classic. :lol:
Good for a laugh - you know what really surprised me was that some 'professional photographers' actually got really, really angry and upset with her. As if she was some threat to them, taking away business by empowering other MWAC's to take photos??
Anyway, in case no one knows the back story - I think it was discovered that her husband actually runs a legit photo business, seemed like she may have been trying to get MWAC's to try and take some photos then see for themselves that it's not quite that easy to take a really good photo?
http://youarenotaphotographer.com looks hilarious! I've gotta check it out.
However I do have to take exception to the idea that "you're not a photographer just because you own a camera". Proceed for enlightenment: (underline mine)
A photographer (from Greek φωτός (photos), meaning "light", and γράφω (graphos), meaning "written") is a person who takes photographs.
So if a person (any sort of person) has a camera (any sort of camera), and takes a photo with it (any sort of photo) - they are by definition, a photographer!
Whenever I see "you're not a photographer..." it just makes me think that it's some elitist hobby that no one else is allowed to be interested in.
The real distinction is that a photographer can take either good photos, or bad photos.
A professional photographer uses photography to earn money whilst amateur photographers take photographs for pleasure and to record an event, emotion, place, or person.

Oh I had a quick look at http://www.derekpyephotography.com and decided I really like that site as well. :lol:

Semantics: "photographer" <not equal> "photographer"
and
"photographer" = "not a photographer".
also
"black" = "white"
:D = :(
etc.

Agree semantics. In this case Photographer is being defined as someone who is 'providing photographic services to others', whilst that may not have been directly stated, it is implied, by the very basis of the discussion.
