As a light carry anywhere compact digital camera what do you recommend with the following characteristics:

12 + Mp (preferably 14MP +)
Optical zoom of 8-10x +
HD (preferably full HD) video capability
Some form of image stability
weatherproof/shockproof would be nice
sub $400 range
I have a preference for Canon (but that's mainly in DSLR

thanks in advance

Seeing as you seem to know very specific details of what you want, just go to www.canon.com.au and look at which models meet your requirements, then it should be a fairly easy choice of a few models.

Personally, I'd look at the Fuji FinePix F550EXR .
16mp, full 1080i video recording, 15:1 zoom and unlike most of these small P&S's, it has a 1/2" sensor instead of a 1/3" sensor.

I've owned a few Fuji P&S cameras over the years, and every one of them has made great photos.
I have one that is many years old and we used in the office for quick product shots. Used by 10 different people and has taken over 300,000 photos - and it still works fine.

You can pick one up from Top Buy for around $230 including a spare battery.

Fuji make great sensors, and they also make many of the Hasselblad lenses and are renowned for making some of the best lenses for cinema cameras too.

i just put an order on an F600EXR as a christmas present for a mate. the specs look ok, but decent user reviews are a bit hard to find.
