View Full Version : Bondi Sculptures By The Sea 2011 - 3 - 20 November - AP meet planning thread
Ok time to start thinking about our yearly meet to shoot Sculptures By The Sea on the Bondi to Tamarama walk. This year the exhibition runs between 3 - 20 November. If people are keen I'd like to do a dawn shoot starting at either end and then do the walk. So basically we'd be looking at the weekends of 5/6 Nov, 12/13 Nov or 19/20 Nov.
So please post here if you're interested in coming, and if you have any preferences for a particular weekend.

I am in for this. If we do this as a dawn shoot like last year then any date should fit. You need to be there early to get parking and Tamarma is the much easier end to start. As always, early is better and last weekend is usually hell (and can be stinking hot like the year before last).
Count me in if it's any of these dates 6 or 20 Nov otherwise probably not due to work & hols! Life's just tooo busy!
Well my tripod would feel safer outside of those dates Ness but just so we can have you along...... ;) Anyone else interested in coming along this year ? 6th or 20th November ?

I'm coming but I would prefer the 13th or 20th but I could do the 6th if need be. :)
I intend on coming to this shoot as long as the 13th is not the date because I have a fishing comp on that weekend.
So shall we say the 20th at the moment ? This gives everyone plenty of time to put aside the morning for the shoot, make transport arrangements etc. :)

Book it Danno! :D Oh wait ....you are probably too young to remember the original Hawaii Five 0 Glen and that saying means nothing to you!
ahem ! I do remember the original Hawaii Five O thank you very much ! :p I also watch the new version as well and they use the same catch phrase. ;) Ok so Sunday 20th November, dawn shoot at either Bondi or Tamarama (to be decided closer to the date). Locked in.

The new version of Hawaii Five O doesn't count anyway.
In diary.
It may be easier to get parking a Tamarama at that early hour of the morning. Last year there were plenty of non-metered spots available. Bondi is a killer for parking rangers.

I'm in and my #2 son may come along as well if he can drag himself out of bed. #1 son had a look today (he lives at Bondi) and said that there are some very interesting sculptures especially one in particular. (Thought I would give a little tease to get more people interested.) :D

Hey everyone, hubby and I went this morning. Wow it gets crowded!
I'm glad I was organised and got there a bit earlier as I had to fight for my sunrise spot. Well not fight but got my spot and didn't move hahaha!

I went yesterday at around 0630 and it wasn't too bad. We should be ok on the 20th given it's a dawn shoot, last year most people had no problem getting a park at Tamarama, so I think we should start there again this year.
If you haven't been yet but would like a preview of some of the sculptures I've uploaded some of my shots from yesterday here : http://www.flickr.com/photos/crouchy69/sets/72157628113227974/
IMHO this year is a vast improvement on last year, there seems to be many more interesting sculptures on display. A few of them would look good in the early morning light. ;)

Holy crap! Those Images are just brilliant! I wish I knew how to do hdr.
I missed ALOT of the sculptures. I don't know the area well so I just hung around where the tap was and then up to the zebras.
Mine are just awful, feel like deleting the whole lot after seeing those.
Fabulous work!! :)
Thanks Danielle, glad you liked them. A good tip is to buy one of the programs, they have an excellent map of the exhibition and shows where all the sculptures are. I still didn't see it all, there's a lot to see this year. ;)

So it seems a few of you have already done the Sculptures. How many of you are attending - I don't want to go if I am going to be the only one going in? It's a long and expensive trip for me. :confused013

I am going on the 20th. I normally head down there 3 or 4 times every year at different times of the day/night.
Yep still going, hoping for a good sky. :)

I'm still going, what time are we to meet up? and where?

Jo should be a goer too.
I was thinking of around 4:45am in Mackenzies Bay (first bay to the north of Tamarama). For those that cannot make 4:45, whatever is close enough.
Sunrise is at 5:40 but nautical twilight is at 4:39 so the sky will be starting to brighten.
There are a variety of sculptures you can shoot the sun coming up behind or go down to the rocks in Mackenzies Bay. High tide is at 4:18 am so the rock-shelf at Tamarama is out of the question and we did that last year anyway.
I plan on being there at about 0500, starting at the Tamarama end - there's one scuplture I want to shoot that's in Mackenzie Bay so I'll see you there. :) Narelle did you want a lift ? If so you'll need to be at my place at 0430.
Thanks Guys,
I will try to get to Mackenzie Bay by 5:00am. :o
I'm going to need a good coffee to recover after the shoot. :)

That would be great Glenn! I was going to drive myself in but we might as well car pool. I'll be at your place at 4:30am
I will see how tired I am when I get home tonight. Stranded in Fiji for over 24 hrs. If I do come can I come with you guys too?

Yeah I would hate to be stranded in Fiji!
The good lady Cynthia and I will be there bright of eye and bushy of tail.

How many years will I have to endure this?!! :p:D;)
Tony - Stranded at an aiport hotel in the pouring rain wasn't so much fun as 'happy hour' at the pool bar! ;)
As it stands I won't make it. Just tooooo tired as only been home 45 mins. Sorry, really wanted to come along.

I don't know who that old codger with the funny finger is; but he sure kept popping up in all our shots.
Its obvious you have no imagination and can't find a decent subject to shoot, :) every time I turned around one of you had a camera pointed at me. :D
I noticed Narelle knew where to hide and she stayed behind me. :)
Anyway it was a good day and I'll get around to processing my shots soon.

I got home and tried to turn on the computer - it did a hissy fit on me so I have to take it to see the doctor. Great morning. Thanks Gleen for the ride in. I won't be able to post up my lot for a few days. Lucky I backed up allmy files from the paid shoot I did last weekend.
Hey Guys,
Checked out the web site for this .... Looks fanatastic ..... One day I will get there :)
Hope you all had a ball, and I'm really looking forward to the photos
