I know this is probably a thick question but will a Manfrotto head fit on a SLIK tripod? Are they all pretty much interchangeable?

Hullo Nick, the simple answer is yes it should Most tripods including SLIK have a 3/8" Whitworth screw. Check your Manfrotto head to see what size thread it accepts.

There are two fittings, either 1/4" 20tpi or 3/8" 16tpi.
Generally the camera fitting (plate) is 1/4" and the head/pod fitting is 3/8".
Many pod's come with some form of 3/8" <-> 1/4" adapter.

At least the industry got one thing standardised.

Yes, Slik have a 1/4 " thread & Manfroto has a 3/8" thread, but Manfroto head should have a 1/4" adaptor.

Manfrotto heads don't have adapters included (at leat mine don't).
Manfrotto pods usually have a sleeved 3/8 : 1/4 fitting that allows both.

You may need to buy one ... google "1/4 3/8 tripod adapter"

Thanks mate, I only ask as I just purchased a Slik PRO 814 CF II Tripod With SBH-200 DS Ball Head second hand at a great price but I really like the Manfrotto pistol grip head.
