Hi all.

I brought my self a second hand Samsung GX20 DSLR (Takes Pentax K mount lenses) and i am looking to get a new lens.
As im a beginner im not too sure on what one to get.

These are two i was looking at LINK (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/396833-REG/Sigma_508109_70_300mm_f_4_5_6_APO_DG.html) And LINK (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/622388-USA/Sigma_686109_50_200mm_f_4_5_6_DC_OS.html)

Most of my pics will be of cars And the familys and friends horses (Show horses)
The car pics will be mostly Stills and the horses will be action shots while in the show ring.

Any help would be apricated.
Thank you

Personally for most of what you want I'd use my Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 (portraits, people and cars)

For the horse action shots the Sigma 70-300 APO is a good idea

Hi thanks for that.
I have been looking at Photography supply sites and Ebay for lenses.
I have come across this LINK (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220826694429&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT) Im not intrested in the camera it self, BUT would these lenses fit my Samsung GX20?
Might be a cheaper way to get some lenses to learn on.
Thanks

That is a good buy, you get a spare body as well!!

All 3 lenses would fit, but are basic AF lenses - would be good to learn on - & when you want to upgrade you could still sell for what you paid - particularly if sold separately.

The cheapest way is to buy a group like this - but ask plenty of questions re the condition & do they work as they should. Don't bid to high.

One is APO and the other is not.

See http://www.sigma-imaging-uk.com/lenses/lens-tech.htm for explanation.

I suggest you also bookmark this link too http://www.pentaxforums.com/userreviews/

The 2 lenses overlap too much in focal length so much is wasted.

Get the Apo version if you can. A 70-300 is a useful lens. However, Mongo agrees with Kym that you will need a wider short range zoom.

If you want to buy only one lens for now, Mongo would recommend you look at a Tamron 18-250 (this is the older but very good version) or the new version which is the 18-270. Mongo can tell you the older version is a great all round performer– do not know about the newer version.

BTW – if you can get a second hand version in excellent condition do not pass it up but make sure it is measurably cheaper than a new one. Some guys are charging almost as much for second hand as it costs new !! If you do consider second hand, then look at the pentax range of second hand primarily as they used to make exceptional quality lenses in the slightly older versions which still perform extremely well.

I don't like making recommendations but I think that this lens is worth your consideration.

http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/product.asp?idProduct=3610

It rates fairly highly on user forums and seems to be regarded as good value. It seems to have the same optics as the DA but does not ship with a lens hood (a generic hood will cost you about $12) and has a non-metal mount, probably only a worry if you're shooting 2000+ frames per annum.

Unfortunately 18-270 was never made in Pentax mount, the 18-250 Tamron & Pentax of same length are the same lens made by Tamron, now only available used & go for a good $ used & gets a very good write up in Pentax Forum.
