OK, this is from left field, very out of focus.

I'm thinking of getting a trail bike and know of a couple of togs around here that ride around a take photos so thought I'd ask here.

After off road but able to be road registered, probably something 400-450cc and easy to ride (I'm new to bikes!) and around $3-4k. Any thoughts or good resources out there?

I am not sure if the laws have changed Mick but 250cc was all a learner could ride:confused013
Personally I would go for Honda XR or a Yamaha TTR

Hi Duane, yes I thought that too, but in Victoria there is a learner approved bike list (here (http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonlyres/CDC3D584-3171-4ADB-8079-DC2F70D8CCE9/0/VICROADS_n855936_v1_LAMS_list_published_Mon_4_July_2011.pdf)) that has plenty of bikes up to 600cc. Was a surprise to me too :)

250 trail bikes can be a bit of a pain if you have to cover much distance at highway speeds, something like a DRZ 400 suzuki is a good mid sized allrounder and still very capable off road.
