Has anyone had bad experiences running a Canon charger off 12-240V inverter ?
I know there are 12V car chargers available, but looking to delay spend for a while.
I already have a 300Watt MSW inverter.

I can't see any reason why an inverter would do them the slightest harm. Well, assuming that the inverter is of even semi-decent quality, not some complete rubbish.

I've been charging laptop and camera batteries via an inverter for almost a decade now without the slightest hint of a problem, and I spend a substantial portion of each year on the road.

A resonable quality inverter shoud be fine.
the current draw from the charger is quite small so it shouldn't tax the inverter too much.

Don't try running a 3 bar heater using one of these inverters though.

However, you can get a dedicated 12V charger for your battery pretty cheap from one of the cheap websites though and it would be a lot less hassle to use than the inverter, and a lot smaller to carry around.

No problem. Same as Tony, regularly use an inverter in the 4WD or Boat to charge camera & laptop batteries during trips away.

A charger that uses 12V costs something like $7 bucks from fleabay. I think it's worth?

I have had an inverter for about 10 years or more and use it regularly - though only while driving - to charge up many items.

Everything still works fine. If you are worried you can always add one of the fancy power boards with regulators in them to the output of the inverter.

I have been using a 150 w inverter to charge my camera, phone and AA- AAA batteries for years with no problems. I have 12V chargers for my 7D but find the inverter with std. power board more useful as you can charge a number of batteries at the same time when travelling. I have had the inverter with 3 chargers running with the ignition on acc for 4 hours with no ill effect. The inverter & 4 place power board cost me under $80, a 400D 12V charger was $95.

Thanks all, I'll give it a try on the inverter and also look at the e-bay 12V chargers.
