What common 9 letter English word can have a letter taken from it at each stage to spell a new word, with no mixing required, all the way down to one letter. So, you remove a letter from the 9 letter word to reveal a new 8 letter word, without the need to mix the letters, and so on to 7, then 6, then 5 etc all the way down to one letter.
