View Full Version : 055CXPRO3 head
What head would you suggest to go with the 055CXPRO3?
What do you mostly photograph Phil?
That leads to the most succinct opinion. :)

I'm more of an outdoor person. I like to shoot landscapes (absolutely love waterfalls) and the occasional startrail. I recently went a a short trek to the Blue Mountains and had my 190XPROB + 488RC2 combo .. it was a bloody worout on my shoulders if you ask me. I'll also be doing a tour of Taiwan later this year and would like to carry something lighter.
Im not sure if there is much difference between the 055CXPRO3 and the 190XPROB besides the aluminum and cf body
OK, that rules out the need for gimbal heads for bird/wildlife photography so you are looking at ball or pan heads.
Seriously. have a look at the RRS heads, they are the last one you will ever need to buy ------ :o
RRS as in Really Right Stuff?

The Manfrotto RC heads are pretty good.
I've got both a 377RC2, which is about the only pistol grip head that works with my 60D with grip and 100-400L and I also have the lighter-weight version the 324RC2 for work, as I don't use big, heavy lenses at work.
They both work really well and are light weight and really hold the position very well indeed, and they are so easy to set up.
They can also be adjusted for left hand use too.
I have also found that they are one of the very few heads that you can use if you have a tripod with a swinging centre column, as most heads don't allow you to get enough angle for them to work properly.
FWIW, I chose the Markins Q10 to go on my 055CXPRO3.
Did a write up on why here... http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showthread.php?72870-My-New-Markins-Q10-Head-and-why-I-chose-it.
Six months down the track I am still delighted.
