Watermark

Here is a really silly question: I don't have photoshop and never edit my photos. I am sure I will get into doing this but how is it you place a watermark onto your photo without photoshop? I am a real newbie and I am super sorry if this seems like a basic question.

Try http://www.idimager.com/downloads/freeware BDsizer which can re-size for the web and add a watermark (I think)

Or http://www.getpaint.net/index.html/ which is a very simple but well featured free image editor which will do that job as well

I use Lightroom to put mine on, it's in the export portion,

But there are freebie photo editing software out there, like Gimp, or Picasa (basic stuff)

For a totally simple watermark, just add text at the bottom, it only needs the copyright symbol, your name and the year

If you're serious enough about your photos to watermark them, then I can't see why you wouldn't be serious enough to edit them. Photoshop Elements is very cheap and INCREDIBLY powerful.

I dont see why youd watermark them either - I know it's important for photos that have commercial appeal but thsi doesnt apply to the VAST majority of photos posted here or to flickr etc

Gee, a What and Why debate! Hey, girlloving..., there's no need to be apologetic. What software came with your camera? It should be able to do some basic editing, otherwise there are the free ones already mentioned.

I don't watermark in Photoshop. I do most of my processing in Camera Raw anyway (which comes with Photoshop).

For watermarking, I currently use Easy Watermark Studio which I got from a 'free for the day' software sites after seeing a link on another forum. It is pretty cheap anyway. Before that, I used Picasa which I had been using to resize for uploading to the net. Easy Watermark Studio does that too.

Download The Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/) (free photo editor, that isn't half bad), and then learn a bit about post processing, cause setting up a watermark brush (http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showthread.php?40856-Watermarking-your-photos-using-Photoshop-%28brush-method%29) in The Gimp, is not that different to doing it in photoshop.
