Well, Peter, I wasn't "sqimish", but I couldn't heal the image. There's just no detail left in the brightest areas. Tried levels, exposure, adding dynamic range....
But if it's any consolation, my Nokia phone does about the same. Maybe someone can.

sorry beyond help i'm afraid- completely blown out in the centre
As others have said it's completely blown out in the middle but here's an attempt to salvage something.
In Lightroom
1) highlight recovery max
2) fill light 44
3) red saturation shift 31 (bring out the gore:D)
4) color noise reduction 45
5) luminance smoothing (noise reduc) 43
6) vibrance 54
7) clarity 45
8) custom WB (temp +10, tint +33 - used the dropper on the aqua part of the pillow)

I can't see any extra detail. NOt denigrating your effort, tho.

Thank you all for giving it a good go.I thought that it was a bit bright to save any info under. Got a good pic of it after stitching but this was the best one with the knuckle hanging out. Not going to do it again just for a better pic.
Once again
many thanks
It's a three-step process, Peter. The following procedure will produce an excellent result just about every time.
1: Pay careful attention to lighting, be sure that you have all needed props to hand.
2: Insert a fresh, formatted flash card into your favourite DSLR.
3: Fetch a hammer from the shed. Smash up other finger - and shot!

My suggestion is to buy a better camera, wait until your hand has healed, then do a rerun.
