Slik 35D tripod head

I have an old Slik 35D tripod my son bought in England in the 1980s. I'm happy with the tripod itself. The head is driving me crazy with all the levers and knobs. I cannot work out if it is possible to remove the head from the tripod, so I can fit a new head. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Please ignore the above, we've done it. Now all I need is a new head and an adaptor for the thread.
