Hi all

I'm after a little help in relation to removing glare from a few pics taken of cars if it’s possible.

The problem is the driver’s side of the vehicle is exposed to bright sunlight whilst the car is against a dark background, just wondering is there any way to correct this in Photoshop?

Have added an example picture, currently using CS5.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

sorry but thats not why its happened,

its cos the front of the car is in shadow... as well as the back ground being a little dark...

spot metering will fix this in some cases... or shooting raw so you can adjust later, but the best is to shoot manual and use the road grey as a guide to the over all exposure as its about 20% grey... will give you a good exposure meter

Matt. Your pic didn't look too bad considering the conditions. Had to wonder at your description of "glare", and took it to mean some of the signs on the side. I rather thought you meant that the sunlit part of the vehicle was too bright compared to the shadows, so I set about trying to equalise the exposure somewhat. I have CS2, but same thing... HOWEVER, if it was from a raw image, you should be able to adjust the highlights and shadows in your raw converter (does it have an "exposure" adjustment?) rather than later in Photoshop.

Here are the steps in CS2, using Adjustments-Shadow Highlights. I did it in several steps, to make sure that I was keeping the earlier effects each time.
Select grill-
-apply minor shadow/highlight (use Shadows slider only).
Whole image-
-apply S/H: 50, 30 only. (SHad slider only)
-apply S/H: 0 (shadows - set slider to zero); 15, 30 (highs slider only)

The last step reduces the brightness of the white in the signs somewhat.
Result below.

Thanks for all the info clubmnamc and ameerat42!

Sorry that glare wasn’t the best word to use, but yes you’re right, one side of the vehicle being very bright was what I meant. Thanks for listing the steeps, I shall jump on PS tonight and have a play.

Your edit looks 10times better than the original :)

Thanks

Matt

Done another one, mainly using masks and levels.
