Canon 450D ISO performance

Hi,

Whats the best way to test ISO performance on my 450D?

I find that I get a lot of noise when I put the ISO up to just 400. I normally shoot on either 100 or 200ISO but sometimes I feel I need to bump it up in low light conditions but then I get the noise problem. Does anyone else who has a 450D have this problem?

I noticed noise if I used ISO 1600, but can't say it was an issue at ISO 400. I tended to add +1/3 exposure compensation to avoid underexposure, which is where you're most likely to see noise.

How does the histogram look with the exposures? If you push to the right (i.e. slightly overexpose) you will minimize noise issues even at higher ISOs. I said minimize, not eliminate. :) Post a sample image and include a screenshot of the histogram of the raw file as well before any adjustments were made.

I notice noise on my 450D at ISO800 and 1600. However, have found ISO 400 to be resonable.

Same on mine, I always tried to stay at 400 at the max, they don't have great iso performance.

400 is max for me on my 500D. I'll go higher if there's plenty of light but I'm usually disappointed with the outcome.

i remember it being acceptable till around 800 on my old 450d

400 is usually ok, but higher I find a lot of noise also.

ISO 400 is noticeably noisy on my 450D too. It's quite depressing really. I'm saving up my pennies for a better Canon - which one I don't know yet.
