I found a few more links too. I made a blog post (http://odillesphotos.wordpress.com/) for it with them all.

The digital world has opened many new doors but sadly closed a few good one too and now, killed an icon. Let us remember it fondly and preserve all examples we may still have of it.

I heard on the ABC 702 (Syd) that the lab in Kansas is about to (the close of business on the 4th - US time) close down the processing machine. They were due to stop last month but were overwhelmed by the volume of last minute orders so, he was forced to press on for another week.

The guy who owns the processor said he got over 500 orders via mail alone which has almost depleted his final store of the necessary chemicals.

The end of an era.

I only just recently got into film. Can anyone explain what made Kodachrome so great?

I doubt any other film would be mourned and I was just wondering why.

Lots of film have been mourned over the years, including entire companies (Agfa and Polariod) when they disappeared. So much so that other companies bought the rights to their films etc and continued to produce them, after the actual companies stopped production. Though it seems Polaroid has made a bit of a comeback after basically closing down in late 2008.

chrome arrived a few days ago. It's as good as ever. I must see about scanning some.
