I was in Ted's camera store today and while talking with the staff about memory cards and such, one bloke said that a 2 terrabyte card was on the way next year.
don't know which brand though.
has anyone else heard such a rumor?
you could store a feature film on that.

I think it's about this: http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/30/sandisk-sony-and-nikon-propose-500mb-per-second-memory-card-wi/

I assume it won't be backwards compatible though.

And since the article mentions they're "studying the proposed specifications" I doubt it'll be here next year... and the first batch won't be close to 2TB either...

SDXC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital_card#SDXC UP To 2tb
http://www.sdcard.org/developers/tech/sdxc

The next-generation SDXC memory card specification dramatically improves consumers’ digital lifestyles by increasing storage capacity from more than 32 GB up to 2 TB. Its exFAT file system handles large volumes of data. The specification for increasing bus interface, "UHS-I," with speeds up to 104 MB per second and a road map to 300 MB per second, and UHS Speed Class are available for SDXC cards and host devices. SDXC's extended capacity will provide more portable storage and speed, which are often required to support new features in consumer electronic devices, mobile devices and industrial devices.

My new Pentax K-5 will support these with a firmware upgrade, many other new model cameras are in the same boat.

Don't expect to see 2tb in a hurry, 32Gb, 64Gb, and 128Gb will be the first generation.
Edit: Sandisk have a 64Gb SDXC card and is stocked by our site sponsor Cheap Chips

Q: Why? A: HD Video!!
