I really want to buy the Canon 24 -105 f4 L for an upcoming trip.

My current lens selection:
Sigma 10-24mm
Canon 70-200mm f4 L
Canon 50mm f1.8

My plan is to sell the 70-200 (which is hard as it is a mint lens) and buy the 24 - 105. Do you think this makes sense? Should I look at selling the 50mm as well as it will be covered with the new lens? Any other lens suggestions for travel photography maybe?

Cheers.

I take it you don't shoot in the 105-200mm range ?

No point selling the 50, it's not worth much (monetarily), but is very handy for low-light (f/1.8).

It really comes down to what focal lengths you currently use. If you find yourself always near the 20mm end of the Sigma (it's a 10-20mm not 24mm) and wishing it was longer, or always near the 70-100mm portion of the wishing for something a little wider, then the 24-105L makes sense. However, it would seem you have most of that focal range covered already with the exception of 20-50mm.

Yes 10-20! :o

I shoot a lot at the 200mm when I have it and also at the wide end of the sigma... I really need something for traveling...

I guess I'm answering my own question here. I think I need to sell the 70-200 (I can buy one again later) and keep the wide angle.

I'm not sure why you don't just keep the 10-20 and the 70-200. The little 70-200/4L is quite light and small and wouldn't take much room when travelling. If you're shooting a lot at the 200mm end you WILL miss it when you don't have it.

Do you need L-series glass for travelling? I would at least consider something like a 18-200mm lens, especially if you have a crop sensor. It gives you everything for a slight decrease in IQ... but if its for travelling... I would also keep the 50mm and chuck that in the bag when travelling - it is small and light and fast.

I gotta say when traveling the 24-105 rarely leaves the camera :).

I love the shots that it produces and when light gets bad I strap on the 50 :th3:.
