Please forgive me if this post is out of place on a photography forum, or if its been done before (i searched but couldnt find any threads).

I work in television and am very competent with cameras and such, however have never shot on a DSLR.
I just bought a Canon 60D, so.... any tips?
any shooting advice? best frame rate, shutter speeds for different things? any general advice for video on a DSLR?

G'day Daniel

I am very biased here so take this with a grain of salt
For video, I would use a video camera - it's meant for it, has all the stuff needed for video, etc etc
For hi-quality stills, I would use a stills camera

I understand that Phil.
But I am choosing to use a DSLR for my current application, i work as a television broadcast professional and shoot with pro video cameras.
My question remains for any advice or tips people have discovered from filming with a DSLR.

Canon DSLR's can produce stunning HD video, they have been used to produce feature films, shoot TV commercials and even TV series (the finale of House for example) (http://www.petapixel.com/2010/04/09/house-season-finale-filmed-entirely-with-canon-5d-mark-ii/)

There is an excellent forum covering Video on DSLR cameras www.cinema5D.com (http://www.cinema5D.com)

hope this helps.

Hi Dan, the first thing you will need is a decent mike adapter...Beachtek and then find a pro mike- eg sennheiser/ Sony.
Tripods with fluid head big help
A decent eyepiece that fits over the rear screen eg http://www.zacuto.com/z-finder-dslr-viewfinder
Batteries++ Cards++
If you want to splash out then bdoors and focus pull
