So i ordered a cheap nikon to canon eos adapter on ebay the other day. Got to try it out yesterday on my mates dads old Nikkor 800mm. Was lots of fun! Cain't wait for some moon shots.

Just thought I would share....Little candid from 110ft away

800mm??? f/4.5 ... as far as I'm aware no such monstrosity exists.. damned that'd be a monster lens too!

Nikon have made various 800mm f/8's over the years, and I just checked on the MIR database and found that they also made an 800/5.6(which sounds more like it).

@ 5.5 kgs tho and over 1/2 a meter long... you'd know if it was one of those monster 800/5.6's

Nikon did make lots of 400/4.5's tho

Definitely has to be a 400mm f4.5. Just going through the maths, a 400mm lens, on a 1.6x 'crop' body such as the 7D, at a subject to camera distance of 110ft, would give a horizontal field of view of 6' 2.3" which seems a lot more likely than the 3' 1.1" horizontal plane seen at 800mm (based on the sample pic)

whilst your maths is logical, there is no way those two fellows are each 3 feet across the shoulders, I would give them about 18 inches each for a total of about 3 feet.
Which could well mean that his 110 feet distance could have been 115 or 120 ??

Not sure what happened with the post above^??

Sorry. The lens is definitely the nikkor 800mm f5.6. It is easily over 1/2 metre long. The '110ft distance' from the subject was just an estimate. I will post a picture of the lens attached to my body as soon as I pay my next visit to my friends place.

another pic from 'about' 60ft away (the MFD)

I wasn't meaning to have a go at you with what I said, I merely reiterated what Arther said in that there was no Nikon 800mm f4.5, and was trying to offer an answer as to what lens you had :) All good
