i have a Nikon D700. Just purchased a wired remote control for the camera.
Do I need to set-up this within the menus for the remote to work?
If so please advise in which menu.
thanks
Sue
Hi Sue,
No, just connect into the port on the front, under the rubber covering, turn it on and it should be good to go.

Thanks for your response.
The remote release was still a problem I took the camera and remote release cord to a camera shop. The connecting prongs of the remote has been damaged. Unable to be used
However when I had the Nikon D80 somebody gave me a Nikon infrared remote.
As this does not work on its own there must be somewhere within the Nikon D 7000 menu to set this up.Could you advise?
thank you
Sue
I assume you mean a D700, not the D7000 you mentioned in your previous post? If so;
There is nowhere to setup in the menu a remote release.
You simply plug a wired one into the 10 pin connector on the front left side where the 2 rubber caps are, and for a wireless release, you plug the receiver into the same 10 pin socket, and the transmitter obviously is in your hand, no menu setup at all.
Sue, the infra red remote DOES NOT work with the D700.
It was only ever made for the D50 - 80 series.
Cable remotes ( 10 pin ) can be sourced very cheaply from many shops as Chinese made Nikon knock offs.
