I took the plunge and have ordered the 7D, plus the 15-85 F3.5-5.6 IS USM the 100mm f2.8 Macro(non IS) and the 70-300 f4-5.6 IS USM.
It has taken me ages to get to make this decision, lots suggestions by well meaning people and some sales people to wait for the Nikon D7000, but I am very happy with what I have decided on and cannot wait to use it.
Lots of information on this site and others to educate me and spur me on. Thanks to all posters.

woohooo. Enjoy! The fun begins and the serious questions start now that we have got the trivial brand issue out of the way.

Congratulations to both of you.
Boy are you two in for some work.
But the results are well worth it.

Will be expecting to see some "great shots" of the boats at the Cleveland marina then. ?? Have fun.

I'm making it a trifecta - my 7D should be arriving on Friday also (one more sleep) :th3:
I'm getting the Canon EF-S 15-85mm to start with.

It's been quite a challenge to save the money, and it's been worth the effort. At least the time taken has enabled me to read the manual (twice) and watch a heap of video clips on the 7D although that won't replace the time needed to really learn it.

Now to keep saving for the lenses to follow which should cover most of what I want to do.
Tamron SP 70-300mm (to be released in Canon mount next month)
Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8
Canon 100mm macro (probably not the L)
