Hi folks.

I realise this question has been asked and answered many times over, but the amount of opinions, posts and threads on this have completely bamboozled me.

I'm after a couple of lenses for my d90 and have probably decided on what genre I will shoot, after careful thought and weighing up my lifestyle, I'll most likely end up shooting landscape/architecture macro and night, with the usual candid stuff thats likely to arise.

I have the 18-55 3.5-5.6 and 55-200 4-5.6 kit lenses, but would like something a bit more suited to the genres I would like to concentrate on.

For the landscape/architecture/nightshoots, I was looking at the AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED which may be useful for those candid moments and for the macro work I was thinking AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED.

Can someone enlighten me to whether or not these are a good choice and maybe whether I should be looking for a third party lens for a similar price.

I had a Sigma 10-20 and it was a little soft on the edges - my Tokina 11-16 is an amazing lens .

I got the 10-24 nikkor about a month ago now and it's been a blinder. The range of the lens is really tremendous as it's 15-35mm in old terms so it lives on my camera now.
10mm is a little squishy if things get close to the edges and the distortion is fierce, which is kinda the point with these lenses but can mainly be corrected in pp. I got mine from dwi so it was about 400 less than in the shops. It's more expensive than the sigma and has a better range and is lighter than the tokina. I was a little nervous getting a tokina over the web as no one in Adelaide stocks them so I couldn't even have a play with one. I also like the AFS for the odd movies with the d90.
I don't have a macro lens yet but the 60mm might be a little short. Tamron 90 might be a better option. You will have to get pretty close to things to get 1:1 which is fine for inanimate things but tricky for critters.
I have 35 1.8 and it's a great lens for not much coin
