The only way is to try it in a shop. I use a 055 as I'm 6'3'
try it with your camera and pod/head combo.

Remember to try it as if you shooting up into a tree for wildlife/birds!
Why? You really don't want to stoop or overly rely on the centre pole (less stable).

The #055 is a very versatile tripod, yet very basic in appearance. It is one smart design.
I even use it as a softlight stand.

I upgraded from the 190 (after many years) to the 055 and wish I'd done it sooner. The extra height and the new design for swinging the centre pole out of the way make it a deal winner for me.

Another very happy 055 owner. Mine is well travelled and has done a LOT of work and still looks brand new.

Most models of the 190 have that too. I went for the one without it as it cost me $80 less, was a little more compact and lighter. I still find it noticable to cart around but the 190 (and 055) are wonderfully stable tripods.

Try before you buy is the best advice.

I'll throw in another point of view. The 055 is quite a large, heavy tripod which makes it a pain to carry on hikes. As always, it depends what you are planning on shooting.

I have no idea what you are using the tripod for but for some types of photography height isn't really that big an issue as a lot make it out.

For example with landscapes if you have a short tripod, you aren't really stooping for that long, only really a few seconds as you fine tune your focus and composition, then start messing around with settings, filters, exposure etc. If your body has live view, then it matters even less. A lot of the time I kneel down and select a composition that doesn't have all the legs extended!

I use the 055 tripod and find it more that adequate. I don't think the extra weight of 800g is an issue at all.

I am a happy owner of 055PROB then upgraded to the 055XPRO... it is a very nice and sturdy tripod.
It will not be wrong :)
