Heads up about an upcoming auction in Melbourne.
http://leonardjoel.com.au/auctions_catalogues.php?auction=164
I just saw it this morning and havn't had a chance to sift through the items but looks like there might be quite a few gems there.
Too bad I'm going overseas soon but might ask a friend to put in a bid or 2 for me.

Certainly some gems from the past, but few bargains, I'd think.

I wouldn't mind betting that Rolleiflex 3.5F no. 1781745 goes for about double the estimate. They're really selling well atm.

At work now so it's hard for me to find the exact item on the catalogue on my iPhone but I think I saw earlier, an M5 with a 50mm 1.4 of some sort for bout $900. Is that cheap for a Leica camera + lens?
Crap.. Leaving tomorrow so not much time to research the stuff for auction.

seems cheap for the m5, in fact i wouldn't expect to be able to get the 1.4/50mm on its own for that, if it's a Summilux. Good M5's seem to be climbing in value, as it is a good camera, just that it was a complete commercial failure.

Here it is:

Condition 4. Signs of light use, but not misuse. No other cosmetic damage

It says Summilux so hmm... intriguing.

probably $3000 worth there if it's in a beater or user condition, maybe a tad higher. i'd say they're trying to get a bit of interest by giving some low-ball estimates.

Lot # 165!!!

Canon 7 with 50mm f0.95. Surely they'd get more than $450-550 for that.
I believe that lens is one a few living legends?? A couple of $k's at the least I reckon.

That's the reason I'll be going. No one bid on it. Please?

so did anyone go to this, and what treasures did you come home with?

Some of those estimates are very low. For example, Lot No. 165 which is a Canon 7 interchangeable lens camera with a Canon 50mm. f/0.95 lens and rated at Condition: 3, i.e. "Very minimal signs of wear"

That would have gone for a lot more than $450 to $550.
