View Full Version : what to look for in a computer monitor
I know it'll be a long time before my photography skills justify a new monitor, but it is the end of the financial year and I could write off a purchase now.
I've got several Acer 19" monitors at the office which are still in good order and are perfectly ok for the cad we use them for & I'm relatively happy with the size.
What sort of specs should I be looking for in a new monitor that will be used for pp
S-PVA, MVA or IPS panel for accurate, stable colour. (Not, repeat not TN film.) Everything else is details of no real moment. See this recent thread: http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showthread.php?t=58696

thanks for that.
I actually used the search facility and searched for "monitor" and that didn't come up

I saw some fantastic NEC monitors at the photography show in Melbourne last week. Apparently they are better than the EIZO's currently available.
RRP was $2,300 for a 30" true 16 x 9 with the lot.
I like both.

Wow, great looking monitors but a smidgen more expensive than I could justify as a hobbyist
smoothunit - I was at the show last week and intended looking at monitors, but went on Sat. - arrived at 1.30 & left at 5.30 and did have a look at printers, but had no energy left to take on info about monitors.
Tony noted on the other thread that TN monitors should be avoided, at least in preference to the IPS, etc; but its hard to find details on a lot of the brands on offer. I can get refresh rates and contrast levels but not much more

Anyone have a monitor in the 19" class that seems to work well....i'm looking for something thats pretty true to form that I can hook up to my laptop....but probably can't justify more than a few hundred dollars.

All you need is a high refresh rate so you can play Metro 2033 at high res :D

Anyone got an opinion on either the Acer X243H 24" Full HD monitor or the Samsung P2350 23" Full HD LCD Monitor? They look ok to me but I really have no idea.
