I just spotted a good idea in the SA meets forum (must have been a Victorian who thought of it!) where they have a sticky of a list of members ready to paste into a PM for advising of state based activities/meets etc.

I think this is a great idea, as that way those who want to catch the meets can get a PM rather than potentially risk missing it on the forums. PM's can also be set to send emails (set in your profile options) so that would alert people to a meet without even getting to the forum. This might help get more coverage of an event and hopefully a better turnout.

Just wondering what everyone here thought? If we get some interest can we put up a sticky - AK, our Melbourne team leader, is that doable?

Edit: of course being included on the list would be entirely voluntary!

OK, it seems we have a fair bit of interest. I agree that by some sort of region might be helpful but we shouldn't have too many which will just make it messy. I'm of the opinion that people should ask to be included on the list and which areas to ensure we get specifically people that have visited this area of the forum and are genuinely interested in the meets. I think sending PM's to people who aren't interested just clogs up the PM space and I sure would just annoy them.

So to move it along I therefore propose we have four lists, Western Vic, Eastern Vic, Northern Vic and Melbourne. That should give enough coverage for the east and west, the border regions and the city but not be too confusing and people can be on whichever lists they like. The purpose isn't to make boundries as such, just to give some rationalisation. For example if there is a meet say at Bendigo, then the organisers should probably PM the Northern and Western and maybe Melbourne lists.

The list will be displayed here so anyone organising a meet can simply copy and paste the list into a PM inviting people to attend. Don't let it get out of control though, a single PM advising of a meet and directing to the meet thread will be sufficient, we don't want dozens of PM's clogging up people's inboxs and want to keep the organisation in a public thread.

I hope this isn't too forward and asking too much but...I wonder if Arthur, Andrew, Harves or Kym even might be able to put a post (or this post) at the top or this thread with these basic regions and names in it and as we get people asking to be added we can add them? If not or if you prefer to just keep rolling with this thread for now, I can just run with this in the thread and keep updating it as we go.

So I have made the best guesses as to the people that have put their hands up so far. Feel free to post to clarify your selection or even PM me, I don't mind ;) and I can keep this list up to date.

Hi, firstly, It is up to me! This is a members list, that the members own so it is up to everyone!

Secondly though, I'm not sure what you mean? Eastern Vic as it is now is basically for anything Eastern Vic, including the south and north. Remember there is no boundries as such, this is not about division, more about engaging! It was just a way to create some sort of relevance about the messages you sent out. ie there is no point someone in Sale hearing about a meet in Horsham, or someone in Echuca hearing about Melbourne meets. That said everyone is free to put their name on any list as they may be interested in hearing about meets in all areas, hence I am on West, North and Melbourne.

There aren't many people on the Eastern list, so I'm not sure that breaking it down further would really serve any purpose anyway.

Hey, yes that is no problem. Only issue is you can only send to 20 people at a time and the Melbourne list is quite large so takes a few messages. Best to ask a mod to send it as they have no limit. I suggest either arthurking83 or I @ M who might be able to help.

Hey guys, we'll do an update in the next couple of days. I'm stuffed and can't think straight just now and I have a few PM's to go through to make some changes too, so give us a few days and we'll update the list to accommodate your requests. You found it. The Vic forum is a place to discuss about meets around the state. This list is purely a list of members interested in being notified especially of meets in their area.

I've been thinking it's about time for another meet, but the weather really isn't very inspiring at the moment!!

Ok, this thread is now over 400 odd days old and all we've achieved is to collect a bunch of names. Here's an idea (albeit hardly a new one), why don't we organise a Photowalk in the Melbourne CBD/Southbank/Yarra River precinct starting at 3:00 pm and going until 8:00 pm? If anyone is interested, speak up and we can thrash around dates and times etc. Seems a shame to have a photography group on here and not have anything happening.

Hey Apollo, we have had a few meets since this started and sending out a private message to those on the list generates interest. This thread isn't really the place to generate interest in new meets.

To organise a meet it would be best to start a new thread with your idea and hopefully it will fly. At that point you can send a PM to the group and get people discussing a time and date (although you can never please everyone). I'm all for more meets!!

Not a problem at all Andrew, I was merely sounding the waters back then to see if things were still active...
I might put some thought into to starting a social club up this way for the members not so close to the bigger towns/cities
