View Full Version : No Joke - I have a bug living in my D3
Some sort of mite I think, in behind the LCD, How to kill it ?
MrJorge
03-06-2010, 4:32pm
Bash the D3 repeatedly on the desk until it's dead, then go buy a Canon.
I googled, maybe Im lucky ? I have the new Nikon dust reduction system and didnt know it ?

Dust mite lol.

Yep, bashing the desk repeatedly with a D3 will kill any desk pretty quickly. :D
Why go and buy a Canon, it is a new desk that he needs. :p

put it in the microwave for a blast.... That`l kill the little critter.....:D And a glass of water in there at the same time. It worked for wood bugs in timber...
If it is behind the LCD, how do you know it's there?

Leave it there, it's the only thing keeping the Nikon ticking :D
tick....bug...mite........okay forget it.... :)
Well, prob more accurately betwen the glass protector (is there one) and the LCD, I think, though I don't know exactly how that fits together, it might be my imagination, in strong light the LCD looks to have dark spider trails and I couldve been halucinating but I think I saw a little bug scurry across the LCD last weekend
Is this feasible or do I need a different prescription ?

I'm not stupid, I know all bugs have four legs, jeez

Yep, more info needed, if it has 8 legs it is an arachnid (spider --- for the unzed affiliates) and if it has 10 legs it is quite simple --- you have crabs --- or at least one.

On the Android version of tapatalk, you just go to the first screen, click settings and click signature where it gives you options from none, through to custom.
yeah, you cant remove it within tapatalk itself
its in iphone settings

Thank you so much. I really needed (Nerded) that!
Got a cat you can borrow if you really want one.

It's funny this came up tonight.
I just got back from talking to my Dad. He went out to shoot a garden a week or two ago and fired up his old Nikon to find a bug in his viewfinder. He's got no idea how it got there and figured it'll just die.
I was laughing my head off as he was telling me how he had to wait for the bug to get out of his way so he could take the pic.

Just put it into a plastic bag, suck out as much air as you can, seal it up and leave for a few days until the bug stops moving (I have no idea how long it takes to suffocate a bug) - the options of mortein, microwave and freezer would not appeal to me for my camera.
I would have thout a bug could live for months even with a little air left, I suppose I could vacuum seal the camera. Might make it hard to use in the morning though

id say take it to a pro cleaning shop and get a second opinion... afterall, is a D3 man!
I have a fear that they will call in the men dressed in white with a jacket with locking sleaves
Ok, getting completely scientific here now, I remember collecting bugs for a biology assignment in high school and putting them in the freezer to euthanase them. Perhaps you should put your D3 in the deep freeze overnight? And then in the morning you could pin it to a piece of foam board with a label stating its common and Latin names.
whats latin for Nikon D3 ?
"brilliantis cameris" ?
No, I think you're getting confused with Canon taxonomy there.
no, I dont think so, I looked it up
Latin name for canon is :
inhabilis lux lucis ferramenta
How about trying this method:
Place the D3 in a plastic bag
put in 3 or 4 moth balls
Seal bag and leave overnight
Check for dead bug in morning
If bug is still alive apply sledge hammer several times.
That will get the little Bug-ger.

Truly, I did have a few bugs about half a centimetre in length living in my microwave LCD screen - must have been an import. They eventually died after a few months. It was most annoying when trying to read the screen.

I read somewhere the best way to solve bug problems is by dipping the D3 into liquid nitrogen for 5.76 seconds.
hmm, well, used the camear today, no sign of the bug, but on the inside of what I assume is protective glass the little footmarks have left annoying spidering

CRITTERique
The photo is quite blurry, even using an iPhone you should be able to get a sharp result. Looking at it, it would seem camera movement has caused the blur. The background is a bit cluttered and there is some space on the left that would suggest you could have gotten in closer to the action. I don't find this photo a true macro, and I think you should have moved the iPhone closer and maybe rather than attempting to capture them all at once, limited your efforts to several photos, where each individual critter was the primary subject of each photo.
All in all, I have seen better work from you Darren, much better work. Sorry but this photo doesn't work for me.

Get the feeling that a certain flightless burd has tried to pulled the wool over our eyes.
Still reckon the funniest thing I have ever seen is when I walked out of customs at Auckland airport a few years ago...theres a sign about 5m by 2m it read:
New Zealand (insert picture o generic mountain and verdant green grass here)
20 million sheep
4 million people
Plenty of space for everyone.
My sister deadpan as ever, looks straight at me and says, "Surely the half breeds take up a fair bit of that space?" :p
