View Full Version : 85mm 1.2 for Nikon?
I've seen what the Canon 85mm 1.2 can achieve and I'm in lurve :p Is there an equivalent for Nikon? Lens envy like this could cause a girl to change teams lol...
I've had a search and it doesn't come up with much but I am somewhat challenged in the google department so I thought I'd ask you guys :th3:

"Our" 85 1.4 is better
Shocking at f/1.2 though. ;)
lol, yeah, not too flash at 1.2, much better at f/2
Shocking at f/1.2 though. ;)
Kiwi is it really an L series equivalent as far as glass quality is concerned?
OK, seriously, the Nikon 85 1.4 (I have owned one) is a superb portrait lens, often referred to as "the cream machine" due to it's bokeh. If it's not Nikon's equivalent (Id argue superior obviously) of L glass then Im not sure what is.
It is rumoured to be in line for an upgrade to add af-s and VR shortly
The cream machine lol! Yes the girls that had canon at the workshop I went to a couple of weeks ago had dreamy creamy bokeh which was devine. I might rent one to see how I like it.
Why did you get rid of it?
Insanity ?
No, part trade for my 400 and I was using 24-70 more

Sigma have just released an 85 1.4 as well but no reviews on it yet. Not sure on the price in Aus but probably similar to a secondhand Nikkor 85 anyway. Apparently there is some physical restraint with the F mount that limits the maximum aperture to f1.4 as opposed to Canon's 85 f1.2L.
Cheers

I don't know how it compares to the Canon 1.2 :confused013, but I absolutely loved my Nikon 85 1.4 from the very first shots I took with it.
The 85 1.4 is rumoured to be one of the next lenses to be updated in the Nikon line up, probably as an afs and vr version.
That only means that it can get better and more expensive.
My credit card is screaming at me to be let lose on the current model but the head is saying wait for the new version too be reviewed and then there is the tempting sub $1000.00 USD price tag that the Sigma is going to have -----

Due to the size of the Nikon F mount, you're unlikely to ever see an 85mm at f/1.2 on a Nikon.
However, the Nikkor 85/1.4 is an excellent piece of glass.
