street camera

looking for a great camera for street, landscape and candid photography. Something small and compact with all the features of an slr. Can anyone suggest on what would be a great camera. Money and brand are no problem.

But why not just use your D300 (http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showthread.php?t=32411)?

Cheap new one is the Olympus e450. Its TINY and uses the four thirds lens system. It would be pretty mad for street photography. Built in IS too.....could get like 20 for the price of a leica ;)

Well I would be looking at a camera with good lowlight potential, perhaps one of the top-ish end Nikons, D90 with 70-200 f/2.8.
D90 because of the 1.5 cropped sensor for candid apps with very low noise. If you buy a FF camera, ie D700, will mean you need to buy a longer lens...
70-200 so that it gives you good distance between you and the guy chasing you after you just photographed him and his girlfriend in a compromising position....:-) unless his surname is Bolt, in which case you'd probably want to get a head start with the 200-400 f/4...

I recommend the Ricoh GRD III, I've been using mine since April and love it for street. Its one of the more pocketable high quality point and shoots, it has great ease of use with customizable buttons, works well in low light, and has a nice wide angle. Its the kind of thing I can carry around while going out to do things other than shoot.

Some people get a viewfinder for it to use it more like a traditional camera, but I find because of its size, the LCD, and the wide lens I tend to have a much looser shooting style with it as I can get a lot of shots at odd angles I just could never do with a DSLR.

the Panasonic Gf1 or olympus pen1 or 2 with olympus 9-14 lens sounds good, they are tiny and pack a punch. I have the gf1 myself just not the 9-14mm lens ;)
