Hi All,

I am looking forward to my 70-200mm VRII lens very shortly. I've been doing a little bit of thinking in terms of mounting the lens onto the tripod.

At the moment, I have the base plate attached to my camera all the time, that way I can attach it to the tripod and dismount it without any "screwing" around.

I just wanted to ask for those out there that own the 70-200 (or larger lens), how do you mount the lens onto the tripod? Do you have an extra base plate for the lens? or do you leave the base plate on the tripod head?

The reason why I ask is because I'm thinking of getting an extra tripod base plate just for the lens. That way I can hot swap the lenses without having to stuff around with the base plate.

Ive got about 5 tripod plates, I just leave em on my bigger lenses.

getting a dedicated quick release(QR) plate just for the lens is the best way to go.

When I had my larger lenses with a tripod mount I purchased some extra feet to attach them to my tripod, made things a lot easier.

Thanks All,

I've got a manfrotto head, and was looking at the different types of plates available. Does anyone know the difference between the 3.8 and the 1/4 style plates?

I ended up purchasing another 3/8" manfrotto base for off ebay. Let you know how it goes when I receive it.

Got the same lens ( 70-200 ) you will need a quick release plate on the lens for the tripod.

You will love the lens enjoy.

Got my tripod plate ... awesome!!!

Took it home. Fitted on the tripod so smoothly. However, I purchased the incorrect size .. it won't fit on my camera base or the camera lens. I thought it was a universal size and wouldn't have to worry.

D'OH!!!!
