Since the days are getting shorter again , and it is dark by 6:30 pm , I dug out the sound activated flash trigger (http://desmonddowns-ttlblflash.blogspot.com/2010/01/i-have-been-asked-to-share-my-technique.html) and set up my mini-studio outside , checked there were no cows in the field and loaded the air rifle ... this time I added a mirror for a different perspective ... you can actually see the pellet leaving the back of the balloon in both images .

I still have a few pictures to sort through ...

I decided that the mic was too far away since the balloon was too far gone when the flash wired so I moved it about a foot closer .

The interesting thing is that the small change in distance meant that I only had a picture of a balloon with a hole in it , before it had exploded .

Another 6 inches further and it was right .

This one was strange - the front just had a hole in it but the back had time to start splitting !

And the last of tonight's attempts

The other day I saw some different shaped balloons and knew they would make things a bit more interesting .

Then I tied one long balloon on top of a normal one ...

Maybe it is time to start filling them with water again :)

Wet suit first I think!
Love the green one with the hole in the front and split at the back.
Took me a bit to get used to the angle of the mirror in relation to the actual balloon.
Keep at it!

When I fill them with water I have to put plastic bags over the flash heads as well :)
