"Happened a few years ago at a hockey game. Did a four foot header onto a concrete floor with a 1D Mark 2 attached to it."

With respect to the lens:

if he still has it, he can flog it off on ebay as the worlds only TS(Tilt-Shift :rolleyes:) zoom lens.. one of a kind.. prototype.. very rare and valuable... he'd make a killing!

With respect to the camera:
it's a Nikon.. bit of gaffer tape and it'll still work perfectly.. as long as he gives a thorough going over with a copperhill sensor cleaning kit. Last thing you want on your images is for people to comment on dust bunnies :p

Gees, I feel for each and every owner of the pictured gear as well as anyone that has damaged or destroyed gear through an accident.

This thread provides a very useful purpose I reckon.

Even though the manufacturers put a lot of effort into making bodies and lenses tough to resist "working" conditions they simply can't build em like tanks to rule out human destruction.

While pro-grade gear is built to a higher standard and is designed to withstand harsher conditions than lower-grade gear, it's definitely not indestructible.

Scenarios such as the one in which this lens found itself would be considered extreme and not the typical and testing conditions in which the gear would be used.

Sure, some of the L lenses are built like tanks, but extreme impact will see their undoing.

Bah, modern rubbish! I bet if it was a Nikon F or a Canon F1, you'd be able to wipe them off with a damp rag and off you'd go again ;) (or maybe not...)

Wonder what happened to the 1D II if the lens looks like that.. re-traumatised me.. okay it wasnt a 2.8 but my 4.0 70-200 had a less dramatic departure. sad looking image that one.
