View Full Version : Sharpness Test
Is your photo "sharp", not too sure ?
Post an example here - the ONLY thing assessed is sharpness at the focus point
Hmm here goes
No editing on this one
PS moved this to pp help as you were asking for people to post pics which isnt' really suited to F-stop
How are you judging the sharpness btw Darren?
BTW i thought for a 5mm creature that not bad round the head :D
did you tell me you focussed on the head ? even so, its not critically sharp imho
I can only assess the image in totality

hmm, looks to me, IMO that the focus point was the rock under the beetle?
Well i thought I had it on the head but he was moving lol - i only use single point AF so its around the head somewhere lol

ok one more - no editing
cant get the exact focal point with zoom browser for some reason using the tammy 90
Many thanks. This was an experiment in using a fast lens. Controlling the DOF is more finicky than I thought!
Just to make it easier for your eyes Darren --- image zoomed to 100% and then cropped to the screen borders

Taken with one of those "old" D200's and a cheap 3rd party lens.
How about this Marlo chook, is it sharp?
Top one (crop) is brilliant focus- no problem. Skin texture and colour show up so well - terrific.

Answer: Of course it is sharp - wonderfully sharp - I like sharp. But can't gauge the sharpness of the eye.

How's this? Just bought a new lens and only had a chance to take some quick test shots around the house.
No sharpening. The first just resized, the second - 100% crop upper right corner.

Your critique - please.
Yep...this one will do me:th3:
Richard
Bah! Some of the images you're calling sharp have enough digital sharpening applied to produce noticeable artefacts.
Slightly softer but more natural looking would be preferable.
some good examples
Re: Pelican neck feathers
The image looks a bit soft to me - F-stop too small (?)
