Sometimes when you are looking to buy a new lens, it's helpful to know what focal length you tend to favour. You might also like to know what ISO, shutter settings etc are most used.

There is a free program called Wega which graphs and analyses your images and lets you know all sorts of detail about your shooting style. Just point it in the direction of a directory of images, and it will analyse them all and then tell you what sort of settings you use most.

Thanks for the link. Though I suppose the whole point of new gear is it lets you do things the current gear doesn't. Still interesting to analyse the data.

I think the software you're referring to is ExposurePlot, not Wega (which is an image viewing app).

ExposurePlot (http://www.cpr.demon.nl/prog_plotf.html) can be useful for providing stats on focal lengths, apertures, etc, that you have been using.
For example, if yo want to add a lens to your bag, you might want to use ExposurePlot to see which focal lengths most of your photos have been taken, which apertures you're using, etc...

Maybe could be helpful if you rent or borrow something? Also could be great if say you had an 18-200, and we trying to decide whether to upgrade to a 24-70 or a 70-200 or something like that, or decide between a 50mm and an 85mm prime if you already had zooms covering those focal lengths.

Thanks for the heads up - I'll give this a go tonight.
