View Full Version : 5D Mk2 with EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens
Wow - this lens is sharp!
The crop of the eye is NOT a macro shot . It's a small crop from the photo next to it.
I can see my reflection in the pupil - awesome lens!

nice, but did you apply sharpening to it later, or is it straight out of the camera?
Hi James,
I did apply a small amount of sharpening in CaptureOne however I am impressed with the amount of detail the lens and camera sensor can capture. It's awesome!
Your equipment list is very impressive - am green with envy over those lenses!

that's fair... it is a nice lens with a nicer range. though i find when at 24mm or 105mm it's not at it's best... but the IS does come in handy sometimes.
my collection has been a fair while in the making now... sold a lot of lenses too...
you're free to give some of my lenses a try if you come to a melbourne night meet :)

You know I looked at the first image and thought it was a little soft, but that second shot is incredible. Makes me want to buy the 24-105 sooner, it's on my wish list along with a 100-400L. *sigh*
Nice reflection too, CSI would solve crimes with images like that! :p
Thanks James. When is the next Melbourne night meet?

what etherial said :)
just a small group of us, like last time. ended up being a good night.
looking forward to this one.
so come along if you can.
Nice bit of kit....but to be honest my first thought was they both are a little soft, acceptable but room for improvemnent :)
After all the worry I had about changing to Canon I now love my one camera, one lens set up in the 5D2/24-105. It's all I want and need. The files are so large and good it becomes a "macro" by cropping in the puter; same goes for when I need a bit longer lens, I just crop in the puter. No need for a bag of gear, and there is no dust on the sensor problems because the lens is never removed.
It's also magic for aerial photography; I just framed a 20 x 24" photo that was cropped to less then 1/2 the original file!!
I can do all my photography with this camera/lens combo, so don't me ask why I just bought 70-200 f4!! That really mucked up the no dust idea

The answer is simple: once you get your hands on one L series lens, you want them ALL.. lol.

LOL I have had the 70-20 for about a month; used it once to make sure light flowed through the barrel; it was a case of don't need it; don't want it; can't afford it but it could be handy.
Now about that 400mm NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :D

I was wondering what name you used over this side of cyber space; bit more peaceful here at the moment ;)
LOL I was going to say you were a mug to sell it, but you can afford a new one when you get sick of lugging that new toy around.

I believe the 24-70 is sharper but my 24 105 is sharp enough and more versatile. 70 mm to me is not here or there. :)

I heard 24-107 is actually sharper than 24-70...

don't underestimate the F2.8 in the 24-70 though
