580EXII Battery Indicator??

Now I love my new 580EX flash, but it doesn't seem to have a battery level indicator! What the?

It lasted really well through around 600 shots last weekend, but the first time I noticed the batteries were going flat was when the recharge time was getting slow.

Is this normal, I would have thought a $700 flash would have this basic feature? :confused013

I can't recall ever seeing a battery indicator on any flash. On my 580 I watch the recharge time but always have spare batteries with me anyway.

Yeah, I noticed that too!

I checked the manual twice; so unless I'm blind in both eyes, I don't think it has one.
