Canon G10 question

The G10 has a 14.7 megapixel CCD sensor and 28-140mm zoom
Question is do you only have 14.7 mp shots when at 28 mm are the shots cropped at 100mm?? reason been Im not happy with the quality when enlarging prints taken at 100mm

I can't see how the images would be cropped by altering the focus length. According to Canon it is purely a 5 x optical zoom, not a digital zoom situation.

The things that determine the mp available ( as far as I know ) are;

The image file size that is selected in the menu. 14.7mp will be available at the "large" size in either raw or JPEG.

The aspect ratio that the camera is set to and by a quick look at the Canon website the large image size is 4416 x 3312 pixels which when multiplied gives 14625792 pixels where as the "widescreen" aspect ratio size is 4416 x 2480 pixels which when multiplied gives 10951680 pixels.

what settings were you using?> RAW, or JPG, if JPG which quality level and how big were the enlargements?, what ISO, etc. Can you put up a copy of the photo in question? Way to many variables here to be able to determine a cause of your enlargement issues.

The zoom should not reduce the number of pixels in the photo.

as above, it is an optical zoom not a digital zoom (crop).
