Comment on lighting kit sought

I saw this lighting kit on eBay. Can those with knowledge of using such things comment for me, and do any of our sponsored advertisers have anything similar? I don't want to pay a huge price as this is an experiment, but I have seen softbox lit portraits and they have been great. Any advice much appreciated.

I really did want to know what people with some lighting expereince thought, that was why I posted in the first place!

I'd save my money and look at low cost strobe type lights in preference.

While it's true they are cheap, I just don't see the long term value.
