ok
I wish for
a canon 5d mkIII
a canon 16-35L
New pocket wizards with a 430flash

note, my last big expenditure was a packet of lense tissue and the way money is at the moment, the 5dMKIII will be second hand by the time I save up

really, maybe a laser light soft box

seems people are going to be spending up .. we'll be out of this recession in no time :D

So far weve had a D90, 50D, K-7, D3, 1DsMKIII for Darrens dog, 5DMKII, a couple of L lenses, pocketwizards, Giotto tripods ...

This is why I said "realistic" and not "wishlist" ... ;)

I've got pretty much all the cheaper stuff I want, so most of mine are going to hurt.

1: Sigma 150mm macro
2: Can't decide betweenh a 1D IV and a 1Ds IV
3: Can't decide between a 400/4 DO, a 300/2.8, or an 800/5.6.

This is a long, long, long term list:

Canon 24-70 f2.8 L
Canon 17-40 f4 L
Canon 5D MkII

Unless some unexpected money falls into my lap, I won't be getting any of these for quite some time.

I`d likelots of things but prolly get....
77mm cpl
77mm ND8
77-67 step ring.
I`d also like a ttravel lens prolly the 18-270 VC tamron

Where does one stop.......
I think I better get something to clean my sensor first....lol

My last purchase was a Tammy 200-500mm off Titzy, I'm going through a learning curve but am loving it, thanks Titzy. :th3:

Because of the above my next purchase will be small, a Manfrotto tilt head (approx $75) for my monopod. :)

Wish list:

Nokon D90 and a Tammy 90mm macro.

10-07-2009, 8:00pm
A decent tripod would be nice.
Although I was thinking of buying a Sigma 50mm EX Dg Macro or a Tamron 90mm Macro, I have put that decision on hold as I was also thinking of going over to the Darkside :star-wars:
and selling my Canon and buying a Nikon!

This is an easy one for me, I was researching lenses like crazy in the lead up to going digital and deciding on a make.
Now I finally have my A700 here's my lot.
Tamron 90mm macro (almost there):)
Sony 70 - 400mm G (this year)
CZ 16 - 80mm ( early next year)
That's the plan anyway. It will be very nice to finally have some decent glass.

That's good to hear. All the reviews I have seen look good, even the Canikon fanboys are grudgingly giving it a thumbs up, and you don't see that happen with Sony gear too often:D :D
I know it's not cheap, but I should never need to upgrade it.:)

I was toying with the idea of a 5D2, but I've got so many holiday expenses coming up that full frame is going to have to wait for a couple of years.

In the meantime, I'm thinking:
Sigma 30mm 1.4 (Aug 2009)
60D body when it comes out (Q4 2009?). Will probably sell the 40D to part finance.
MPE-65 and Twin Lite macro flash (Q3 2010).

When I eventually move to FF, I will probably keep the 60D as a second body, so I don't immediately have to spend money swapping 10-22 for 17-40 / 16-35 and the 60mm Macro for a 180mm Macro.

[All the above subject to change at a whim!!] :)

I am eagerly awaiting all my paperwork to get my tax done because I WILL be getting a good refund this year!! So, as soon as that's done:

Macro Lens - I would LOVE to get the Canon MPE65mm but more realistically, it's going to be between the Canon EF100mm or the Tamron 90mm
Flash - 580EXII - Can you believe I've had my 40D for 18 months and I still don't have a flash!
A "good" wide-angle lens - to be decided!

RRS BH55 head(with additional accessories)

but seeing as I already have the 18-105VR Nikon and the 3531 Gitzo, as of a little while back.. I'm allowed 5 new items.. I 'spose :D

so
add to my list a D700 and a Katzeye screen, and I'm done for a while.

I really wanted the Nikon but went for the Sigma 150-500 based on reviews, comments, etc and a Manfrotto monopod to hang onto it. Got it last Thursday.

As a beginner, I am starting to think that some lenses are a bit like fishing lures. Designed to catch the person.....

Probably get a Nikon 18-200mm next.

AdamR
19-07-2009, 9:35pm
My dream would be a Mamiya ZD with the equivalent of a 24mm and a 85mm.

Then as gravy why not a water housing.

Realistically Id love anything with housing and strobes and a TS-e lens. Dont see any of it happening for a long time though. Perhaps Ill be able to afford the mamiya by the time I can save a penny.

Lately I've had a buying spree, might as well enjoy the money! This weekend I've been really, really 'bad' and bought a 24-105L and a Sigma 10-20 from Canon POTN. For my next 3:
a decent flash (and learn how to use it)
a light tent
stands to hold reflectors and things

And I'd like a 1D body of some type, but will wait a bit for that.

But, my council rates bill just arrived so purchases will have to wait until after my next paycheck.

Oops, I have no self-restraint and now have the SB-400 and the 35mm lens.

My new "next three" are:
1. Lowepro Fastpack (still haven't decided which one)
2. Macro extension tubes
3. Proper macro lens if I decide that macros are for me.

Well I can't seem to pick the order but its going to be consisting of

Canon 10-22mm
Canon 580EX or II (which ever I end up finding for a good price on ebay)
New mid range zoom, something like the 24-105 or 17-55 not sure yet.....

I'd probably need a new bag by then too but that doesn't count ;)

Well I ended up getting the Sigma 10-20, figured it was much better value for money and I managed to get my new bag as well for less than the Canon....

So I guess next up will be flash + wireless trigger. Then 24-105 which will keep me happy for awhile until I can afford a 5D II + 17-40.

Realistic purchases - hmm sorta not much money here - but if/when had it

Flash
Macro lens
18-270 or 24-300 tamron

Well i can now update this now as have now got a 430EX ii and a Tamron 90 now :)

Still would like a 18-270 as a walk around lens
A remote flash trigger (that works lol)
Maybe a better tripod at some stage

Try the Sigma too, I was almost determined I would walk out the door with the Canon but I just couldn't bring myself to spending nearly $400 more on what I felt to be a lesser lens, for $1100 it didn't feel anywhere near as nice as the Sigma.

Next 3 purchases:

1. Canon 580EX II (was just about to buy one before the AU$ crashed, and prices went up like $150-200, now they are back to normal)
2. Circular Polariser - going away end of the year, time to do a bit of landscape
3. 1.4x TC - a bit more reach on the 400mm (mainly for stationary birds, roosting waders, etc)

... but my shopping list continues way past these, but better stick to the rules :)

This is a long, long, long term list:

Canon 24-70 f2.8 L
Canon 17-40 f4 L
Canon 5D MkII

Unless some unexpected money falls into my lap, I won't be getting any of these for quite some time.

Well I didn't have any money fall into my lap, but a 17-40mm f4 L did (thank you wonderful husband)!!

So that leaves me one item short on my 'Next 3 Purchases' List. I think my new list will look something like:

Canon 5D MkII
Canon 100mm f2.8 Macro
Canon 24-70 f2.8 L (not so sure about this one now - might wait to see if Canon release an updated version with IS)

Well, it's taken a while for me to get my act together, but I ordered my stuff today! Woohoo :D

Went for the Canon 100mm f2.8 macro, the flash (Canon 580EXII), and a Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6.

Can't wait till it arrives so I can start playing. :)

Then after that a new Camera bag....

Okay I have now got the Tripod and 17-40mm lens so now onto the 70-200, but I have changed my mind and although I do like the F4, I am going to change and go for the 70-200 f/2.8L IS lens mainly because of the light gathering power and being able to use the 1.4x teleconverter without stopping down too much.

So my revised list is now...

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM

Tammy 90 or siggy 150 macro, need to ask if anyone can tell me anything about performance differences on these two, and advisability of use on crop and FF cameras. How much extra distance the 150 gives etc etc

L series lens, undecide what first but probably 70-200, and does anyone know if the siggy 2x TC can be used on a Conaon lens

New computer to process it all on, not sure if to go to MAC after a lifetime of PC, but duel boot is tempting

Mine have probably changed too...
1) Either a Canon 10-22mm, a Tokina 11-16mm or a 17-40mm f/4 L (I think the first one would be a fun lens and fit nicely with my goal to eventually replace my 17-85mm with 1 lens and the 24-70mm f/2.8)...but I'm trying to decide. I had settled on the 17-40mm, but then I looked on the internet.

Picked up the Canon 10-22mm on Saturday, got it new for about $860 which I don't think is too bad. My only regret is I could've picked up the demo they had in the shop for about $680, quite a saving and it looked very decent.

Love the lens though, even if I haven't had a chance to use it too much yet. Just a bit of a play around.

This year is (hopefully) going to bring me a big macro leap forward.

Plan is to upgrade from a humble EFS 60mm macro + tubes to:

- EF 100mm f/2.8 L IS macro
- MPE-65mm
- MT-24 twin flash

Hoping to do it in one go. Haven't yet decided what to do with the 60mm, a friend is keen to buy it off me, but this lens has been so good... would be really sad to part with it.

Cheers. It was the interest free deal, and I just got a very nice on-going deal confirmed off the back of a job last weekend. :)

EDIT: And we won $35.20 on the lotto this week, which just tipped it over the edge. ;)

Next on the list is probably some desner NDs and some hard transition GNDs.

Now if you have to list 3 purchases, #3 will be a toss up between the Olympus 14-150 MTF zoom or a Nissin Di466 flash for Four Thirds. Obviously the latter is the cheaper but I do very little flash photography and a long zoom would be nice for a one-lens travel outfit.

Well I now have a 5D MkII (albeit one that is away being repaired at present :() and the 100mm macro lens, so I guess my list needs updating. It probably looks a little like this now:

Canon 24-70 f2.8 L

I have been a bit silly and gone from Volkswagen to Ferrari (Canon 400D to 5D MkII) due to a very generous partner so my wish list is more wants than needs. But here goes.
1. New CF Tripod - can't make up my mind between Feisol or Manny
2. Trade my 17-40 f4L and upgrade to 16-35 f2.8L
3. 10 stop ND filter

Of all of these I reckon I will be successful in the last and wishing and hoping for a Tatts win for the others.

Gear: Canon 5D MkII, 400D, Canon 70-200mmF2.8L USm, Canon 100mm f2.8L IS USM, Canon 17-40 f4L, Sigma 50mm f1.4 DG HSM, Sigma 50mm f2.8 DG Macro, Tamron 18-270mm f3.5-6.3 Di II VC, Canon 430 EX II, Canon Extender 1.4x II

The next 3 purchases for me will hopefully be:
* I need a macro, so probably the Nikkor 105mm f2.8 VR.
* I also want a long lens and it will either be a 200-400 f4 VRII or the 300mm f2.8 VRII, but probably the latter as it copes better with the 1.4x TCII and the 2x TCIII. Apparently, the 2x TCIII gives superb results with indistinguishable reduction in IQ (as does the 1.4x TCII) and therefore I would end up with a 600 f5.6 with VR. :D Trouble is, I need to sell a kidney for either of these lenses.
* I am thinking of getting the 85 f1.4 as a portrait lens.

All very expensive and hence why they are still on a want list.

As you can see in my signature, I have most situations covered with excellent lenses anyway. :)

Thanks Kiwi, I was reading up on the 50mm again and thought maybe its a bit over the top. I want to shoot black and white portraiture mainly and some travel/tourist type stuff especially around home. I also want to shoot stock and was going to use it as a good grounding for composition and exposure.

I like the look of the 35 1.8 and its cheaper to boot.

Thanks again
