Are you a member of your local Camera Club?
If you would like to post the details here, so other members in your area can look it up. Feel free.
Please put the Town and State at the top of your post so other members can quickly scan the posts to find a relevant club near them
Not exactly what you ask there, but if I may... I am involved in setting one up in our neighbourhood. Just wondering what type of activities are most wanted, so if that could be added I would be grateful!

Joost, just thought it would be good to have a thread listing the camera clubs in members areas. I know a lot of AP members are also active in their local club, and some even have AP listed as a link on their websites.
So please post info about yours Joost.

Riverland Camera Club is rather small - about 15 active members - but meets twice a month (1st & 3rd) Tuesdays, 7-45pm, at Berri Primary School. We have some very experienced photographers and photoshop users, and a few absolute newbies!
All visitors welcome to any meeting.
We have a variety of activities including inter-club competitions (we win our share), and occasional field trips on weekends.
camera clubs in members areas.
I don't think it'll be of any use to anyone else (since it's located a good 20.000 km from Ozz eh?) but since you insist: ;)
Photoclub Vathorst (name is not fixed yet), Amersfoort, the Netherlands :D
We're just starting, first official meeting sunday june 7. Planning to meet once or twice per month, 24 potential members now (we don't accept members until we've got a suitable indoor meeting-place and have an okay from the official Dutch photofederation).
Average age of members: I'm guessing 35 or so. This is the main reason for starting this club... we've got another club here in the city but that mainly consists of members well in retirement (65+) that don't connect well with "young" and eager digital togs.
Most members are just starting in photography (another reason not to join the existing club) and they're mainly seeking knowledge and just enjoying social interactivity whilst doing their thing.
Activities will include:
- workshops (planned: introduction, studio, portrait, system-flash, postprocessing)
- presenting and critiquing
- meeting and photographing together, possibly group based ("field trips" as well as specialized working groups)
- visiting of expositions, festivals and tradeshows
- longer term: competitions and expositions
The reason for asking to list the activities your clubs organize is that most clubs here do the same things all in a similar way whilst it would be nice to have something completely different. For example: how do you guys organize critique sessions - is that based on prints, does your club use a beamer or perhaps even something different? If you've got an exposition, does the club provide frames and mattes? Do you print yourself and bring that or does the club do all the printing? That's the sort of information I'm after...

I am becoming a member this friday of my local camera club in Mosman called: Mosman Camera Club (http://www.mosmancameraclub.org.au/). It is in Sydney, NSW.
Meets at the Blackwood Memorial Hall, Coramandel Parade, Blackwood SA
Meets alternate Thursdays at 7.30pm
We are a friendly club, consisting of around 20-30 active members, and cater to all types, and levels of photographers.
We regularly hold competitions (approx 1 per month) where we have guest judges score our work. We also have interclub comps, and end of year trophies etc.
Apart from the comps we run workshops, and have field trips when possible.
All in all a very friendly group, that has helped improve my photography skills and knowledge :)
I'm going to become a member of my local! Went to my first meeting last week, and quite enjoyed it. Its the Diamond Valley Photographic Society. Lots of experienced photographers who I am looking forward to learning lots from...

I have approached the Principal at the College I work at about starting a camera club that both College and Community members can join. If and when I get it started it will be located in Kellyville, Sydney. We would probably meet once or twice a month - so if anyone is interested keep an eye on this forum for a post to give more details.

Not specifically a camera club:
http://www.wanats.iinet.net.au/photography.html
It's the adopted photographic branch of the WANATS [West. Aust. Naturalists Club]. You don't have to photograph flora or fauna to come along, natural landscapes will do!
I'm happy to take AP members along as a guest if they are interested in attending an event or meeting night. We have a some outstanding published (continuously) photographers and a very varied membership. The group is non-competitive (not comps). You can show any of you work each night or event.
I thoroughly enjoy every contact I have with this group.
Launceston Photographic Society....meets the last Tuesday of each month, with a pub night on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.
Guest speakers, monthly competitions, outings, members have a range of experience- from new to Photography through to professionals...all keen to share their photographic interest.
As I'm the recently elected new president  , just PM me if you would like some more info...or check out www.lps.org.au.

I have just joined The Yarra Ranges Photographic Society (http://yrps.org.au/) and have been to one photo comp meet, with a guest speaker and a workshop on exposure all in one week
They have regular guest speakers, photo comps and trips and also have a Redbubble Group (http://www.redbubble.com/groups/y-r-p-s?utm_source=RB&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=promo_badge_rb_logo).
I am sure they would welcome any one else that's new to photography, like me, or anyone with experience, with a warm reception like I received.
I'm glad I have joined as I've learnt heaps already and can't wait for the next meeting ;)

Cairns Photographic Society

The Community Learning Centre(jcu)
Windarra Street

As a member of this site for all of .... oh ..... 2 minutes maybe .... I might be a bit cheeky posting my first message as an ad - but for anyone in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne they could do a lot worse than check out the Eastern Suburbs Photographic Society. Our address is http://home.vicnet.net.au/~esps/index.html
Welcome to AP Bob, good looking site for the camera club you have :th3:, can't see a link there to AP yet but I am sure you can fix that within a couple of minutes. :)
Saw this thread and thought I would put up the details of the club I belong to:
Western Australian Underwater Photographic Society (WAUPS)
We meet the fourth Tuesday of every month in the Games Room (out near the pool) of the Indian Ocean Hotel/Motel, 27 Hasting St Scarborough WA. Currently we have approx 45 members and looking for more. You don't have to be interested in underwater photography only as we enjoy all types.

I am a member of MPC. It is a fairly new club, just going into our second year.
Meeting are held at the Broadford Community Centre. We meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. The dates for the rest of the year are as follows. 15/7,19/8,16/9,18/11 & 16/12. Meeting start at 7:30pm.
For more information just send me a PM and i will put in you in contact with the club.:D
Hi we have a Photography Club at the University of Melbourne which is open to all. I think we're the largest University Photography Club in Victoria, but of course you don't have to be a Uni student to join, we have many members from the general public.
http://www.fotoholics.org/
Membership is a bit costly ($12 per year) but the good news is you don't have to be a member to come to events, though you do have to be a member to use the Equipment Rental Service, to get Discounts at Harvey Norman, other sponsors etc. Also I guess members get discounts to the rare events that cost money to come to.

We meet at the Soldiers Point Bowling Club on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 7 pm. The club was started just a year ago so we are still learning but having fun at the same time. Monthly subjects are set and we try to get in an outing.
Just PM me for more information if needed.

At this point meet twice a month.
1st & 3rd Tuesday at 7pm
Very new club, think only 5 or 6 meetings have been held.
I've attended the last two.
For a new group, quite a lot of members, lot of enthusiasm & most are very new to photography. With a few members who really know their stuff.
Structure still needs to be put in place but the club as already outgrown 1st venue, tried a the Presbytery last night, but some want to give one of the meeting rooms @ the golf club a go. ( personally not a good idea ) So sooner a venue is settled on sooner some direction will be put in place I feel.

The Melbourne Camera Club in South Melbourne (www.melbournephoto.org.au) is still going strong - it's quite close to the Sth Melb Market. I did their 6 week course a few years ago (sadly not with my digi camera...must revisit that!) and it wasn't bad. It was an intro course, mostly done by lectures/tutorials with a couple of field trips thrown in. I think the fee included 6 months membership.

Hmmm - I am also interested if there is a Brisbane club. Looks like nothing as yet.
There are quite a few. Closest for me is in Mt Gravatt.
Is anyone here a member of a club in Bris...south-east area?
Hi RuthJ, I realise this query stems from some time ago but felt it couldn't hurt to mention the Redlands Camera Club through the Uniting Church. Their post box is in Wellington Point and I assume their physical adress is also Wellington Point. I am not a member there but am considering joining up. Roy

Toowoomba Photographic Society (http://www.tpsinc.org.au/)
The Toowoomba Photographic Society Inc. meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.15pm in DeMolay House 90 Margaret Street, opposite Queen’s Park.
There is also a Digital Group meeting on the fourth Friday of each month at 7.30pm in
DeMolay House 90 Margaret Street, opposite Queen’s Park.
All are welcome, whether beginners, experienced photographers or non-photographers. There is an entry fee of $2.00 per person. At the end of the meeting all present are invited to supper with a chance to discuss problems with others.
The club covers a wide range of formats and subjects. You don’t need to own the latest digital single lens reflex camera to be a member.
What is important is the end result, not the equipment used.
Competitions are held most months for black & white prints, colour prints and projected images (Digital and colour slides).
Work may be produced by the digital or analogue means either by the entrant or a commercial laboratory. This is judged by experienced photographers who provide helpful feedback and comments to the entrants.
For most meetings we have a guest speaker or one of our own members who gives a talk about some aspect of photography. Sometimes we have a practical night, such as a portrait workshop or a demonstration of a photographic technique.
As well as monthly meetings, outings are held through the year and members have the opportunity to attend photo conventions involving camera club members from all over Queensland.
A newsletter is published each month on this site and is available at the meetings and at Owen Camera House, Cyril’s Camera Centre and PhotoPro in Toowoomba.

In Canberra there are two camera clubs

I am a member of the Gold Coast Photographic Society - meetings involve a competition night and a demonstrative night on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays, plus a "Digital" night which focuses on the post-processing techniques of mainly Lightroom and Photoshop. There is also a monthly outing and other more "unofficial" events. Its a large club with a lot of good shooters.

I am looking for a camera club in the Nothern Sub's of Wollongong or even the Sutherland Shire. However, I have found 1 or 2 clubs in the area. Shame that the clubs have phone numbers that are disconnected and mobiles that numbers now belong to other people. BTW, are there any people out there in the Illawarra or Shire, that are as nutty as me that go and chase storms? That is pretty much the whole subject of my photography.
You will find the Shire clubs on this page, they are both at Cronulla
http://www.photographynsw.org.au/pages/club_finder.php
and the Wollongong clubs on this page listed under Warilla and Wollongong
http://www.photographynsw.org.au/pages/club_finderc.php
PM me if you have any difficulties with contact as I have judged competitions for all four clubs for many years and have alternate contact details to those advertised.
I'm going to visit http://ttgcamera.blogspot.com/ on Monday the 9th 23rd.
A great evening @ Tea Tee Gully Camera Club. I took a few prints along and scored a well.
The judge scored between 3 and 10 on the night, a lot scored 4,5,6.
I managed a couple of 8's there was one 10 and three 9's on the night. I was very happy with that.
It took a a bit over an hour for each image to be displayed, commented on and scored. (Around 100+ photo's)
I felt I would have scored differently on about 20-25% of the photo's, the judge's take on some was quite different to how I saw things.
His very quick CC comments were good and sort of explained why he scored as he did.
That was a good learning experience for me.
The skill level varied a lot. A few very stunning images, a lot of good one, and quite a few others that were quite average.
So I guess the Club has everything from beginners to very experienced 'togs.
Met up with a long lost friend from my teens! That was good.
It was very friendly and they have a good program of activities. I'll be back!
Good to hear you enjoyed yourself Kym, and are going back too.
Who was the judge BTW? It sounds like they scored fairly evenly for the night - and like you said, they can be quite helpful with their comments.

I am a member of a photographic group in my area, but I am getting bored. We just sit there and look at each others photos and say...nice....great.....hmmmm....etc.
Can anybody give me some tips to take with me to the next meet to spice things up? I love the people, just getting bored with what they are doing.

I am a member of a photographic group in my area, but I am getting bored. We just sit there and look at each others photos and say...nice....great.....hmmmm....etc.
Can anybody give me some tips to take with me to the next meet to spice things up? I love the people, just getting bored with what they are doing.
I am in Victoria.
Cheers
Carol :D

Since joining a photography club I have learnt a lot and become far more critical of my own work (for the better). I was becoming a bit lazy and needed some more inspiration to relight my enthusiasm. Mt Gravatt Photograpy Society (Brisbane) is varied with a competition evening and a guest speaker evening each month, as well as smaller groups eg. beginners, digital, Monochrome, and international groups meeting on other evenings during the month. Join a club and learn more.

Hi
I'm relatively new, but keen.
I am looking for a camera club or similar in the St George or Sutherland Shire (Sydney area).
I am wanting to spend some time with people that meet and go on regular field trips to take photo's.
The objective is to improve my skills and learn more.
Oh! and for them to have some patience with a novice.
If you look up Federation of Camera Clubs (NSW) there is 'club finder'on their site, which lists Sydney clubs. It shows two in Kogarah, one in Sutherland, and one in Cronulla.

Hi all, I have moved from the Uk to Wagga Wagga and I am looking for a local club. I have looked on the Net and asked at the local Camera House but no luck. Anyone have any ideas?
If you are still looking contact me at ralphnewman1@bigpond.com and I will give you more details.
There is a club still going but only a small number of members to what it was when I was running it.
Ralph
I've only recently become a member of this club in the northern suburbs of Perth. They host 2 meetings a month. Unfortunately I work away, but I can make one meeting per month.

My in-laws live there and I'm down there as often as possible. Eventually we'll be moving there. I'll have to drop in and say hi.
HI Carol,
It may be different on your side of the world but over hear, some clubs are good, some are not so, but it depends what you are looking for. I joined a club when I retired in 2010 and wanted to do more with my updated equipment. Unfortunately the first club seemed to have more leaning towards competitions where the members spent the evening discussing the images submitted ........ a bit boring and it sounds like your present one. The activity as far as constructive help and advice was limited and I felt that it was not for me.
I then looked around and found a more active club that meets twice a month, a weekday evening and a Sunday morning, where actual shoots take place on a regular basis, or information/explanation of how something was achieved is talked about.
The competition entries from shoots are submitted to the club and judged, but we don't spend a whole meeting viewing them, but are encouraged to make constructive comment once they have been displayed and this can help us all improve and see what we may be missing.
I believe that this club suits me better than the first, but can see that particularly newer members may be looking for more explanation of how things work and various ways to improve in different areas, as we all have a learning curve that needs feeding.
Even with a newer club, there should be some members that are capable of arranging a studio set, or organising a group meeting to take photographs and help other that are not so well informed. Newer members can be linked to the more experienced to mentor them and regular meetings where some method of photography is explained. Get members to list what they would like to know more about and arrange the meetings around those subjects.
My advice would always be to join a club, find your level and chat with others on how to improve and move forward. There is also an great deal of instructional videos and printed information on the internet and looking at videos to see the actual way things are done will help you improve. Members could be set a task of viewing a particular video and then asking questions on areas that are not too clear. If the club is stumped, then ask the question on this site and I'm sure you will get answers.
If the first club doesn't fit you, don't give up, try another as what suits some people will not suit others.
Also, when you are new to a forum, try and help yourself more by ensuring your profile has your name, ( not often seen on this site), your general location and you have listed the camera equipment you have. It saves others asking and will get more contact to you from local Togs, who may have similar equipment and be in the same boat as you.
I hope this helps - Good luck
Malcolm

Does anyone know of a camera club in the Vermont, Mitcham, Ringwood or Heathmont areas?
Also I just wanted to ask what your experiences are like with your camera club.
I've been told that many are run by pompous equipment obsessed show offs....has this been your experience? If this is correct then it's not the place for me!
Of course that's a huge generalisation!

I was surprised not to the Adelaide Camera Club listed here, I have been a member there for about 3 years, plenty of variety, workshops and comps. A strong history & leaning towards portrait photography but plenty of scope for other subjects as well

Tea Tree Gully Camera club. I joined at the beginning of this year.
For many years I resisted joining a camera club, preferring to do my own thing.
I must say, the people in the camera club are very nice and the standard of photography displayed is great. I'm enjoying my time with TTGCC.

To save myself time, instead of reading through all the posts I'll just straight-out ask if there are any video clubs in Brisbane for The Mature Gentleman... :D
Tell you why. I'm a big fan of the old B/W sci-fi and creature flicks and I reckon it would be a heck of a lot of fun to make short versions of same, complete with cheesy space ships, aliens, and so on.
I used to make props for amateur theatre, so I can do all that. I also have the wherewithal to do spfx and so on. And I reckon it'd be a hoot to do.
Anyone doing anything like that?

Yeah, video clubs. I found this sub-forum with a search. Is there a Video Club sub-forum here I've missed, then..

Ahh, bugger! I see the forums are mainly for still photographers, not Ed Wood wannabes, like me.... ;)
Ah, well. :)

Casey Camera Club. I see they're in Vic. Bit far from me, unfortunately. I'm looking for video enthusiasts around Brisbane.
But thanks for the suggestion anyway, dt86. :)

Have you looked on Vimeo for a group doing the types of videos you are interested in? There are a whole lot of different genre groups on there. Here is a link to one of the sci fi groups https://vimeo.com/groups/scifi Some of the groups hold regular challenges.
