Photoshop has a lens correction filter, not sure about Gimp, but maybe have a look and see if you have an equivalent filter?

Yep, not only help you but the world financial crisis, which as they tell us can only be cured by spending cash ( lots of it ) by simply buying disgustingly expensive lenses (http://www.sony.com.au/productcategory/di-digital-slr-camera-lens) that don't show as much CA.
Otherwise, just buy any Nikon camera, an everyday Nikkor or Sigma lens and a copy of Capture NX.
Problem solvered. :D

Daz,
If you go to the GIMP download page there's a link for GIMP plugin registry - I'm pretty sure I saw a plugin for CA correction when I was browsing there last week.

That URL points to what I reckon may be one of the most enigmatic lenses in the history of lens making!!
Check out lens numbered SAL500F80!!
It's weird, possibly great value for money and ambitiously overextending it's capabilities.
it is of course a 500mm f/8 mirror lens with AutoFocus.
my experience with these lenses are that they are great value for money(and if the Aussie dollar was more valuable it'd probably sell for much less than what's listed there.
The issue is that it's stuck at f/8(not an issue in itself), but is Sony leading us to believe that it will actually autofocus even though it's an f/8??
Most AF systems give up at f/5.6 and by f/6.3 they are all but useless(dependant on light)
Darren.. it's the only lens in that lineup guaranteed not to CA on 'ya!
All others can produce (minimal)CA, but the mirror is, by design, going to show less, or none at all!(stuff PPing!! :th3:)
have you got a spare $1699 :D
And can they pleeeeease make one for Nikon? :p

A simple but excellent way to often dramatically reduce or get rid of colour fringing can be done by following this tutorial here (http://www.great-landscape-photography.com/remove-purple-fringing.html)
