Was considering purchasing one of these tripods with a ball head, does anyone have a comment on quality and usefulness?
Do you mean Benbo and not Benro?

I haven't used one myself, but I have seen them in a camera store. The quality seems quite good, and they are nice and light. Both the aluminum and carbon fiber models.
I'm not too keen on the Benro heads though, much prefer a Manfrotto one.
I'd also be interested in hearing more about this brand, must say I'm not 100% happy with my Manfrotto 488RC2 and it was a lot more than similar Benro ones. The Manfrotto doesn't rotate very smoothly and there is a small amount of front end lens sag when locking. The similar Benro I seen for a cheaper price had different dampning controls, {two knobs as opposed to one for adjusting tension and locking }
I've had a look as well.
A couple of options beyond the 488RC2 are
a) 322RC2
b) Gitzo G1276M Mag Off-Center Ball Series 2 QR (Very nice but expensive)
Now I'm with it .:o There is also a "benbo" tripod, and the legs are far more movable than the standard tripod>great for nature photography and hard to get into places. Sorry; no nothing about Benro; never heard of them until tonight. So I have learnt something day .:)
I did a small review here... http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showthread.php?p=228475#post228475
