Olympus 4/3 Lens replacement.

The lens on my Oly M10 4/3 is 14-42mm 1:3.5 5.6 L has ceased to focus. Can anyone sugest a replacement which would be an improvement, up to about $800 new?

Hi Marty.. What's wrong with getting a new 14-42 lens reckon you have had it a long time so you must have been happy with it.

Had it a long time, but I now have better lenses. I got it out to lend to a friend and found that it will not now focus auto or manual. It was good for closeups but poor at distance. The lens is 14_42mm 1:3.5_5.6 L ED.
This was a kit lens. There is also a 14_42 1:3.5_5.6 EZ which may be better. Do you have the EZ version?

Hi Marty, No I do not have that lens when I purchased my first Olympus Camera the E-M1 I also got the 60mm Macro and the Pro 12-40mm f/2.8 for an everyday walking around Lens.

The 12-40 was not a Kit lens and beyond the price you want to pay, and as you have better lenses why do you need another one to replace that broken one.

I was intending to long lend it to a friend who would like to get into photography, and I have a spare M10 body and the 40-150 very poor kit lens as a starter. The new photographer baulks at paying $2000 for a lens, and understandably.

No need to pay $2000 for a beginners Lens Marty.

I often pop it into my pocket when we go to the lagoon because I get tired with two heavy cameras and lenses around my neck the 40-150mm and the 300mm.
It's not a zoom lens so let the feet do the walking or crop the photos if needed. It is a small lens and not heavy cost $549 here in Brisbane.

Thanks Mary Anne, it is an impressive lens from the DPR shots, and the fact that you use it, is a strong reason to buy.

Hi Marty, I have two of this fantastic pancake lens and really like them. After it gave up working, I have replaced it with the M Zuiko ED 12-45mm f4.0 Pro lens, which has a similar focal length to the original lens. You can buy this lens for around $800, I think.

I was told by Camera Pro that the pancake lens can fail as it has a motor that drives the change of focal length. After having two lens that have had the same problem I bought the 12-45 lens. It is larger, but is still small. Not as small as the 14-40 mm lens, but still small and light.
