Free photoshop alternative

I haven't tried this but its interface certainly looks like photoshop. Might be worth checking out for people looking for a photoshop alternative

I just had a quick read of the article and the Photopea Facebook page. And went to the website as well. Unfortunately, it seems to be an online editor, which means you have to upload files to it and with my slow upload rate, that would be time consuming.

The advantage is, of course, that you can edit files from anywhere you have internet access, including your phone!

Also, the developer makes his money from advertising, which is potentially annoying.

You're right. It opens straight in a browser tab.
It looked and - from a few quick tests - acts fairly much like Photoshop.
I couldn't find how to display multiple images, though, and off to the side
in a separate panel there's an option to upgrade to a "Premium" version for
$9 - unknown currency.

Interesting that you have to do it online which would be useless to me while travelling. Also if it has ads constantly popping up it would be annoying.

Glenda. I had it running for about 5-10 mins. I use Ad-Block Plus, and there were no ads.
Still, it'd be a hit on your mobile data. I was more concerned about what happened to your
pics/data/exif/location details. :eek:

If I wasn't using CS6 I'd consider this. Give it a few more years and GIMP will probably have features that CS6 doesn't and that's where I'll go instead of that PS cloud.

It's got me :scrtch:-ing as to just what GIMPshop is supposed to mean. Your link, Mark, takes
one to the site that suggests some similarity (of its general functionality) to Photoshop, but the
link on that page leads only to a download the latest version of GIMP, 2.10.8. :confused013

A bit of searching gets you this load of "alternatives", (https://www.pcsteps.com/1566-make-gimp-look-work-like-photoshop/) at least one of which is a re-work of the
GIMP source code. Note that they talk of earlier GIMP versions and it's dated 2017.

Conclusion: GIMP is GIMP and not Photoshop.

Guys steer clear of Gimpshop, if you do a search on it you will see it is packed full of goodies such as, malware, viruses and more. It was abandoned by the original developer at least as far back as 2016 and since then has just been a source for the above mentioned.

Getting back to Photopea ....

You can open it directly from here - https://www.photopea.com/

It loads the software into your RAM and they say once it is loaded, you can disconnect from the Internet, as both the software and the files are on your computer and not 'in the cloud'.

TechRadar gave it 5 stars and rated it the best of the online Photoshop alternatives.

I was able to open a RAW file with it. You can also open PSD files and a bunch of other formats.

Thanks for the heads-up on this, Glenda. We just held a Beginners Course and we will recommend this to those that want to learn post-processing.
