Trouble reducing large panoramas

I've recently been trying my hand at some panoramas, however I don't seem to be able to reduce them without losing image quality and becoming a horrible mess.

Here is an example:

No matter what combination of settings I use I end up with equally bad results.

The full size image is perfectly sharp and is about 15000x5000.

What am I doing wrong?!

How are you reducing them?
Expect some loss of quality with great reductions in size.
How are you viewing them? Still at a large magnification?

The image you refer to does show a bit of softness that a smear
of sharpening might just fix, but it is not too bad at the given size
(1366 x 471 pixels, down from "about 15000x5000":eek:)

Agree with Am, tell us what software you have and how you are doing the reduction. then we can evaluate what you are doing and hopefully make suggestions for improving your process.

Without knowing how you are reducing file size I'd suggest you need to resharpen at various stages of reducing file size.
This resharpening has to be subtle. That means by a small amount at a couple of stages as you resize from the large photo you are starting with.

If you are using photoshop, and if you have used a filter or special effect on your photo, don't forget when resizing to check the "Scale styles" in the image size box in photoshop. Otherwise you end up with some weird results.

i don't know if the same happens with other software, but possibly it does.
