Photos are not the only ones you should backup

So, we all know to back up photos, but please do backup your photo tools too (Photoshop actions, Lightroom presets & catalogues, textures, photo stocks, etc)

I only say this because few days ago, my Photoshop had a mental breakdown and lost all my actions (I have had a LOT of actions). Honestly, I've been so exhausted, that when it happened I was just laughing at my luck ha ha ha hahhhhh..... But now I'm starting to see the reality of it....

On the brighter side, I got a phone call promising a formal job offer. So I might get back to photography soon.

So people, please backup your photo tools.

Picz. I just remembered... I had to go to memory archives and access the ancient scrolls, but...

Ages ago my Photoshop (CS2) would regularly throw a wobbly and go back to "default" settings.

The famous AK - if memory serves still - advised me to make a copy of the Preferences file as
set up correctly, and when the wobbly came, just copy the custom settings file back.

The file is
Adobe Photoshop CS2 Prefs.psp

Its location is:
C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop\9.0\Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings\

After the tragedy, I did some research and found that the actions were also saved as PSP file. However, it would be overwritten everytime PS closed. And of course I just closed it........ :Doh:
Why do a lot of Helpdesk staff think restarting something will fix a problem. lol

PS: I have my PSD working files as references if I'm ever in the mood of restoring those actions. One day maybe....

I have two external hard drives (named Statler and Waldorf so that I can tell them apart) and every month I back up my laptop files on one, then the other. It effectively means that I have three copies of the older files, but it also means I have at least two copies of the later files.

It doesn't take long to backup every month, and it gives me the piece of mind.

PS actions seem to be saved internally. One needs to export them in order to save them/back them up. Of course, these are saved in a well buried subfolder in the USER folder ...

So just back up your entire photoshop folder (with all subfolders) on a regular basis.
